Frisco, TX – ThinkGeo has announced a community technology preview of the new Map Suite DynamoDB Extension, which enables .NET developers using the company’s Map Suite GIS controls to store and access spatial data via Amazon’s DynamoDB cloud database system.

Worldwide interest was generated in January when Amazon announced DynamoDB, a NoSQL cloud database, as it promised a reliable, fast, scalable database with near zero administration or setup. Leveraging this technology, ThinkGeo's newly-released ability to use a few API calls to create a spatial table, import data and then access it without a traditional spatial database or hardware is a huge step forward. Amazon's DynamoDB, together with ThinkGeo's new Map Suite DynamoDB Extension, allow you to bypass the traditional problems of scaling, software licensing, and up-front hardware cost with a linearly scalable system that works as well with one user as it does with one thousand users.

The Map Suite DynamoDB Extension preview, along with a functional sample application that demonstrates how it works, can be downloaded from ThinkGeo’s online blog at the following address: http://gis.thinkgeo.com/tabid/143/afv/topic/aff/16/aft/10127/Default.aspx

ThinkGeo has also produced a YouTube video that describes Amazon’s DynamoDB system and walks developers through the use of the extension and its bundled sample application. The video can be watched online at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZTWF1D-OYg

Although a number of issues still exist with the technology behind the Map Suite DynamoDB Extension, ThinkGeo is confident that they can all be easily overcome given sufficient time and resources. ThinkGeo is therefore encouraging interested developers to download and test the DynamoDB extension, then provide feedback to the company. ThinkGeo wants to be sure t
