Ethics in programming?

Has anything changed since Bill Gates left Apple? Sharks swim in these waters, nothing new there, every industry has sharks. Ethics is not on the radar in the programming industry and we deserve to be treated with contempt. It affects our wages and our standing in society and yet we let our masters take advantage of our weak standing as an industry group. IEEE and other groups appear to be self patronising clubs and nothing else. I'm thinking it's about time we as programmers can take an ethical stance, and not lose our job. Just like other engineers. Discuss.

Ethics? Why? So we can increase the height of the already-quite-high moral horses we're riding? Oh wait you mentioned wages. I fail to see how they could be affected negatively. In general there's a pattern of "less ethical means higher wages".

Already-quite-high moral horse!! Sorry I must have missed that ride. I just want to take the high moral ground and make sure they can't replace me :) Also I think less ethical means lower wages not higher wages.
