So following on from this discussion[^]. The wife and I use the same computer and the same logon, I have set up her own profile but she never bothers. I wonder if the trackers can merge different browser information. I use Chrome and she uses IE, I tend towards tech and pron and she goes for tennis and travel and has little or no interest in tech (other than it pays the bills). I hope it is really screwing with the trackers profiling!

Try to create a good incentive for her to start using her own profile, like: - Use her favorite picture of herself as the profile icon, and something ugly on your own, like yourself after a sick night-out :) Use similar idea to customize the desktop background. - Pick up a theme palette that you'd like but she would hate, plus the other way round, and set two profiles accordingly. - Set up some funny apps and things she'd like, but only on her desktop ;)

Let's agree to disagree! Boris the animal Just Boris.

You are assuming I care enough to bother, mind you I have been tempted to install Virtual Girl just to annoy her. It is enough that we use different browsers, our tastes are different enough that they don't compete! I just hope it screws with the trackers.

Well, since you bothered enough to publish it here, I thought you'd want a suggestion. Other than that, why do you want trackers to screw up? Do you think it will affect search relevance much?

Hi Mycroft, Wanna bet that the big-time data-miners, Google, FaceBook, etc. have already factored out to recognize different persons using the same account and IP ? best, Bill

The glyphs you are reading now: are place-holders signifying the total absence of a signature.

Nope but it may serve up some really weird adds.

It suits both my sense of paranoia and the absurd. I don't publish in the social sphere so I like to think that one of their (you know THEM) major sources of info is heavily polluted with completely disparate sets of tracking data.

You are probably correct, our tastes are so different that it would be reasonably obvious. Still only 1 of them should be getting feed on my data, FB does not have an account to hang the data off!

Don't count on it. A person looking at that profile would see that at once. If a program calculates its statistics for a large (or even a dynamic) number of categories, then even the best artificial intelligence I can think of has little chance to notice the contradictions. Just look at the ads Google tries to rub under your nose. I made the 'mistake' to look for Heavy Metal, evolutionary algorithms and (for fun) some of that anti-evolution religious stuff. And that's exactly what Google digs up for me now when some site wants to display some ads. That dumb machine obviously has little clue how contradictory that mix is. It even likes to tell me that I might find the best deals for evolutionary algorithms at Ebay :)
