I once likened using Silverlight over Citrix to nailing ones scrotum to the desk, I feel the same way about W8

Hi Mycroft, Surely you meant "nailing one testicle," rather than "scrotum," since the scrotum is the sac that contains both testicles, and, unless you are, genitally, the equivalent of a two-headed calf, I believe you only have one scrotum. best, Bill

You mentioned Cool OS, but your link points to Windows 8.

Think of the reception it's received. That's been fairly cool. Positively ice-like.

So I guess this means we have to wait until October for Apple's new phone and iPad-mini. Or, more precisely, we'll have to wait for the day 2 days after Microsoft's launch for Apple to reveal their stuff.

Ummm... didn't Microsoft and Google wait until after Apple's WWDC to announce their stuff (Surface, Nexus 7, Jelly Bean, Nexus Q, etc...)? What's good for the goose... BTW - Mountain Lion will be available for d/l by the end of the month. Isn't that more analogous with Windows 8 anyways?

I certainly wouldn't be comparing Windows 8 to Mountain Lion. One is a massive rewrite of the OS, UI and entire user experience. The other has new screensavers (Oh, and an AppStore, of course).

Where to start? I compared Mountain Lion to Windows 8 only because they are both desktop operating systems rather than a smart phone or rumored tablet (from your post). Your implication was that Apple waits until after a major Microsoft release to release it's "stuff". While there is definitely marketing gamesmanship Apple is hardly alone. Surface? Nexus 7?

                      1. Massive? Really?! Windows 8 looks like Windows 7 with the silly Metro interface bolted on. Oh... and a new App store, of course. 2. Why do you suppose Microsoft felt the need for a "massive rewrite"? I've always thought Windows 7 was a pretty good OS?

                        1. They were up all night doing those tiles, I'll have you know. 2. Because we all need our keyboard and mouse driven desktop computers to have a tablet UI, silly!
