It seems like a waste of bandwidth to me. If you want to know a person's location, just ask him or her. Jon Sagara Hi! I'm Melanoma, Moley Russell's wart. -- Uncle Buck

All I'm talking about is something that is comparable in size to the user icons that is on left of everyone's name in their posts (approx. 166 bytes) Please don't rage against this ... I'm just trying to make a point: How about the waste of bandwidth with allowing signatures? People can include basically anything they want within this space and it's included on every post they make. Not that this is a bad thing - I enjoy seeing the creativity that others have in making their signatures - but it definitely adds a significant amount to the size of the forums. Anything feature you decide that would be nice to add to a website adds to its size and therefore will affect the bandwidth it takes to shell the content out to all of the visitors. It's a judgement call on the owners/creators of the web site on whether it is worth adding or not. I think is ... you disagree ... and that's cool. ;)

Jon Sagara wrote: It seems like a waste of bandwidth to me Probably less bandwidth just having a small image of the flag than having to post three messages asking someone where they are from. Plus, instant gratification. If we have to ask, we have to wait. Also I am not going to ask every single person I am slightly interested in where they come from. If I have to ask then I will probably not bother. Why bother knowing at all? Because it is interesting enough. Either way lets not argue this, not that important. So where are you from, Jon Sagara? *Paul waits... and waits.. and waits.*

Weiye Chen wrote: Nice too... but don't u feel that with that "flag" thing, it actually makes us less closed, or feel "not whole". Sorry, i don't know how to express it better... You mean by categorising everyone into their respective countries you fear we will loose the commonality of being Code Project members. Not divided by country, race or age*. I am not sure in the long term if your fears would be realised. But most of the regulars know what countries they and others come from. Chris, CG, MichaelM and many others, Aussies. Meg, Lauren, Leppie, Simon and I, South Africans. Karl the Frrrrrrrrench man. And so on. I like the country bond. I can always be assured of Lauren or Meg or Simon understanding where I am coming from as we come from the same culture. But we share a bond with CG and Stan and John Simmons through CP. Judging by your name you must be oriental, probably Chinese, Korean or Japanese. Stereotypes and some bias comes in because of that, but you are a CPian. I like to know from which country people come, helps to know what approach to take with them. * Though we are sometimes just as bad as we divide based on programming language
