Four of them at once (computer engineering degree) in 1979... ICL System 4 machine code, ICL System 4 Assembler, BASIC II(?) on a RadioShack TRS80 and DEC PDP-8 machine code. Oh what fun it was. I did do some Fortran (but not so sure about that) in my last year of high school (1978)but it was aminiscule amount so I don't really count it.

FORTRAN IV on a CDC mainframe at school in 1969. Went on to use assembler for the next 15 years while learning Pascal and C.

                  TI-Basic (1981) on a TI-99/4A. I miss that computer... :^)

I have always wished for my computer to be as easy to use as my telephone; my wish has come true because I can no longer figure out how to use my telephone - Bjarne Stroustrup The world is going to laugh at you anyway, might as well crack the 1st joke! My code has no bugs, it runs exactly as it was written.

Me too! I was in about 9th grade. I used to write little programs to solve math and physics homework. It was a real pain to load/save programs via cassette. I used to love playing the Scott Adams Adventure games. I actually bought the TI-Extended Basic cartridge, but I don't remember using it much. Years later when I started at uni in comp sci, Basic was the first programming course I took.

Basic on outdated Apple|| compatible machine, then QBasic on 286 machine, that was during secondary education. Both courses were part of compulsory curriculum and sucked, though I've learned how to make never-ending loop. Therefore I consider Fortran as my first programming language (entry-level college course), because I actually learned something.

In high school we shared a teletype console which used a 300 baud modem to program some flavor of Basic on an HP2000 in the late 70's. We ending up with piles of rolled heat sensing paper after completing our assignments.
