Hmmm.. When you think you have really given your best for first two quarters, your boss reviews your performance and tells you that it was not good enough, there were few delays, your preparations for the meetings were never good enough, you took time for design document, you need to much feedback from the upper management, they tell you that its good that you ave plenty of ate hours but we need you to work smartly etc etc etc. But there is hardly mention of the kind of output you have given, without any reliance on anyone. It confuses me. This has been going on for 2 and half years. They give you 4 out of 5, once even change the rating from 3 to 4. Every year the performane is improved the errors from the last year has improved but then the shortcomings in the project just before the review creeps in and spoils all the efforts given before. This has really bothering me now. Should I change job? Feels like there is no hope in this company. Never felt like appreciated but the feedback from the dealing client has been always great. Is the company doing this for the cost cutting in bunuses? Is this the way the boss should review so that employees improve themselves. Also told that you need to take even more responsibility as a senior person. You are the only person in the company who has huge skill sets and performed well in different domains. Will I be ever able to please them or is it that they will ever improve no matter what - let them get so many multi million dollar deals, you will never benefit. Am I wasting my time in this company? Sorry, but I want to blast my brain today.

Couple suggestions here. First, have you told your boss this? Your boss might not realize that there is an issue. Every boss should push their employees to do even better in the future. Sometimes that can feel like things are never good enough. Second, I would go to your boss and tell him/her that you want to improve and then give a plan for how you intend to improve. For instance, in the meeting prep category, explain how you are going to take steps to be more prepared for meetings. Then ask for more immediate feedback. Make your boss your ally in this effort. After the first meeting, ask how it went and if the changes were what they were looking for. Bottom line is that if you can get your boss on your side (helping you help yourself to success) then you will be much happier at your next review. However, if your boss just won't work with you and only wants to critisize, you have a couple options. One is to (reasonably, carefully, etc.) go to your boss's boss and explain the situation. Make sure to have clear documentation of how you are trying to improve and how your boss is impeding that progress. This is a dangerous option and can bite you if you aren't very careful (however, I have done it successfully so it can be done). The other option is to find another position (either internally or at another company).

I had a performance review once. Apparently I don't work well with others but then others don't work as well as I so I keep my job. Don't worry about it. Most bosses put so little effort into a performance review that they are essentially worthless. They always look for a way to ding you because a 5/5 leaves no room for growth and always results in a request for a raise! Average pay for an average review, right :)

Chat with your coworkers to see if they have had the same experience. I did that once, and found that the coworker went to HR, who had a talk with our mutual manager, who then changed the performance review. I can see many possible reasons for why they'd do that, but you don't need to stand for it. How you deal with it depends on your relationship with your manager, the type of company you work for, and so on, but if it's important to you then don't let it stain your record.

When you get feedback, positive or negative, make a hard copy of it, and put it into a folder. DO NOT filter out the bad reviews. Around review time, you should open it, and give yourself an assessment. If everything is positive, you have ammunition to refute any negatives in your meeting. If it's not all positive, you may find an area that you should work on moving forward. If most are negative, you know that you have to do a serious self assessment.

Unfortunately though... I understand the frustration... I worked at a place where it didn't seem how hard you worked, everyone pretty much got the same ratings and the same crappy raises. I moved on, it was a hard decision but something that I had to do, and I've never looked back.

Evaluate the situation as a whole... meaning don't let one event, or even a bad month push you to decisions that will affect you in the long term. Everywhere you go you'll find something you don't like. With that said however, if it's time to go, you'll know it. I worked at a large company that gave the same generic reviews every year and it almost seemed like an excuse to give everyone the same dismal raises. It almost didn't matter how much you tried, you'd end up with the same raise as the guy sleeping in the cubicle next to you, so I got up and left.... never looked back. Sometimes people are frozen to act by fear of change, don't let that be your limiter... but again, make sure it's not an impulse decision based on a bad series of recent events.
