10 kilo a mouth after quit eating sugar? You must eat that much sugar before, just kidding :)

*grin* well, I did eat a lot. I stopped drinking sugary drinks, eating sweets, even eating bread or tomato sauce that has sugar in it.

Depends. Caramel sauce is pure sugar. :-)

What is mm as a measure of weight or area ? The books I've read basically suggest that it's excess sugar that's causing the explosion in diabetes. Seems viable to me. I use something called dextrose, it's a pure glucose powder, when I make sweets, etc. But, I don't use it much, or often, for example, I have coffee without sugar now.

I think sugar is a huge contributor to the diabetes problem. Also other bad dietary choices people routinely make. Some years ago we got the idea that low-fat was the way to go. Consumers bought the idea and "food" manufacturers started reducing fat content in their products. But then it tasted like crap so they increased their use of what ingredient? Sugar. I'll stop now before a full-blown rant develops. :)

So, 60 Minutes in the US and in Australia ran two stories recently on the bad effects of eating sugar. I recently bought these[^] books and stopped eating sugar. I lost 10 kg the first month, 6 the second, and am stable at about 87 kg, whereas I was 102 before and slowly growing. Did anyone else see the shows or anything else and do the same ?

I'd rather have sugar than some chemical crap sweetener. Just remember a little bit of anything is okay, it is just when you have too much that it becomes a problem. Try to stick to natural foods and forget about counting calories, fat or any other bollocks. ps Are you back to regain your crown from the sheep loving Welshman?

Not how sugar is typically consumed, sadly.

Is a little bit of arsenic OK ? How about crack cocaine ? The fructose in sugar is not something our body knows how to process, so it turns it directly in to fat, on our waistline and in our blood. It's also addictive ( because for most of our existence, sugar has been desirable, in the form of hard to get fruit ). Why is there so much obesity now ? Is it because we just lost our collective will power ? It's because we're eating more and more sugar. I cut out sugar, and then did what you say - eat when I'm hungry, don't bother counting calories, etc. As I said, I lost 16 kg

Sorry 1000mg got a nervous twitch in my fingers. :) I also use artificial sweetener but not very often, hate the taste of it. Had an Agent Orange screening a while back and was diagnosed with Type-II diabetes so have been trying to lay off the sugar. It's hard to break because it's in a lot of stuff we consume, at least here in the US. May be a reason for weight gain also but there are a lot of other factors there.

I was always a bit dubious of the many 0% fat food you can find in supermarkets. Quite often they contains a very large amount of sugar, to the point of being the first ingredient in the list. The dogma in England appeared to be that fat make you fat. The word sugar in the contrary carry a rather positive meaning: 'sweet'. Beyond the food industry responsabilities, I wonder how much the weight of the words contributes to the obesity epidermic.

Yes, exactly. And it's sugar, not fat, that is the issue. That's why the rise of people eating low fat has had a corresponding rise in heart disease, diabetes, etc.

I use dextrose, which is pure glucose. It's half of sugar, in other words. Still high calorie, but, used sparingly, it's fine, your body knows how to process glucose.

Sugar is the main factor, I am convinced. My second month off sugar was in the US, and I ate sugar, but tried to control it. I still lost weight, so it's possible, even if you're eating out a lot. I eat more fat than I ever did before, especially animal fats, and I am keeping this weight off, no issues.

When my mum was young they would have sugar sandwiches for dinner. The bread and sugar being very, very cheap.

There's a really good lecture on sugar and our metabolism that really changed my outlook on sugar in my diet (I used to be a sugar addict; now no longer!) Here's the lecture on youtube[^]. Recommended
Ah yes, I've seen this one. It seems to me like a lot of people are starting to promote this ( or they always have but I'm noticing now that I'm aware of it ).

Sugar is what you need to add, to make no fat food edible. The dogma worldwide is that fat makes you fat. I've been reading all about the origins of the idea, but it's wrong.

You probably more precisely mean that you've stopped eating *added* sugar. I don't think it's possible to cut out all sugar in everything. *meaning sucrose.
