The Pioneer A05 is pretty much the de facto standard now, and it's the model that Apple ships in Macs. Whatever you do, get a drive that does DVD-R/RW, not DVD+R/RW. (Yes, "-" and "+" are part of the names and they are different standards.) The + versions are evil offshoots and don't work in as many drives. --Mike-- Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue. 1ClickPicGrabber - Grab & organize pictures from your favorite web pages, with 1 click! I have a Sony DRU-500A which does both standards (DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW) and it works jest fine... $350 at Best Buy but I'm a lazy bastard and couldn't face shopping around for a better price... I myself use a Pioneer 104 (2x write) and it's worked great for me. However, as Mike mentioned, the 105/A05 is the more recent model that includes 4x write capability, and Pioneer pretty much lead development of DVD-R/RW writers. -- Paul "Put the key of despair into the lock of apathy. Yeah, I really meant "don't get a drive that does only +R/RW". ;P --Mike-- Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue. 1ClickPicGrabber - Grab & organize pictures from your favorite web pages, with 1 click! My really out-of-date homepage Sonork-100.19012 Acid_Helm

You can call that bug a "thread promotion" feature :-D Happens only to threads "randomly selected" by the computer as all those tele-marketers say. My article on a reference-counted smart pointer that supports polymorphic objects and raw pointers

DVD-R/DVD-RW? (im lost w/ the new technology) i know people will shun me for this but i was thinking about maybe getting like 2 or 3 DVD's from blockbuster and burning them i know its not legal, but its for personal use and stuff and i just wanna know the un-biased facts about this stuff... how much it costs for a blank DVD, etc.

The last blanks I got cost me about $11 for 3 (Memorex DVD-R @ CompUSA). I'm not sure if you can copy pre-recorded DVDs - I don't think the (normal) software will allow it. Steve

I would have thought that +R/+RW was better, because of the formatting technology. Mind you, I haven't done any actual buying, but I read my PC World... But somebody said no. Care to enlighten me?
