Oh dear: Rich Canucks[^] As an American you think I'd find this alarming but I actually see it as a relief. From now on, the world's problems now get to be someone else's fault. So... Canadians, where's my check? Incidently, it occurs to me that all of their new found wealth may having something to do with the Code Project. It looks like a friendly website, but in reality it is full of evil rich guys - I'm in Michigan so I think I can probably launch a Moltov Cocktail from here.

Do you mind? I may be your Evil Overlord, but I'm certainly not rich! BTW can you lend me a couple of Trillion dollars until payday? I need to get the death ray satellite launcher installed on the Secret Volcano Base.

There is no way the average American's net worth is $320,000.

Not sure what the stats are for that Rez. Pine Ridge has an unemployment of about 88%. Both Diane Sawyer and Lisa Ling have come to do documentaries are the conditions there.

And they get health care without being force by the government to buy insurance companies. And the poor will not have pay a penalty to the IRS when they cannot afford health insurance.

If I read the article correctly, that $320,000 net worth wasn't for the average American, but rather for the average American household. When you consider all the empty homes that are over mortgaged and add those into the equation, maybe that net worth number is pretty close. :) Although, the original article was written for a Canadian newspaper.

that is untrue. nothing is going to force the poor to pay a penalty if they don't have insurance. in fact, the government is going to subsidize insurance for those who make less than 4x the poverty line. and since Medicaid is being expanded, the truly poor will be covered that way.

If I read the article correctly, that $320,000 net worth wasn't for the average American, but rather for the average American household. When you consider all the empty homes that are over mortgaged and add those into the equation, maybe that net worth number is pretty close. :) Although, the original article was written for a Canadian newspaper.

That's plausible if it is households. Like for like a single person is ~70% and a couple 100% of a household. Non couples sharing are slightly over ~106% and children add about 15% for the first gradually going down. So an average married couple, with two sub-teen children would be somewhere around the $400k net worth mark.
