Stupid Decision

Why don't you upgrade it yourself? I'm not an Android user myself but I had a friend who was an Android enthusiast and I was under the impression you can upgrade the ROM yourself, at least he did because Telstra was not going to do it... (And he got a brick for a few days too... ^_^)

Yes, a couple of my friends with Desire HD did this - but one of them didn't have much success.. I guess I will have to go down this path eventually.

I thought I knew what I was in for - a bad battery life, but the other features were well worth it. I used to get regular Android OS upgrades on it, then all of a sudden they stopped a few months ago. Looking into it, HTC have taken the Desire HD off their list of upgrades. I am one of thousands of customers who are quite disappointed with HTC's decision to block updates for what still is a top of the range phone in their line-up, and which was marketed extensively over here in Australia even earlier this year. It is especially worse for me as I also do a bit of Android development and was looking forward to the Android 4.0 platform. The emulators are just not upto the task yet. I guess I have learnt my lesson - to stay away from HTC. Have you been in a similar situation? Where you bought a leading edge product only to find that it dated even more quickly than than its (more inferior) competitors?
Yep, Umbraco 5... I spent a great deal of time getting Umbraco 5 up and running on Azure, only for them to later announce that Umbraco 5 will no longer be supported. They are planning on upgrading Umbraco 4 to support most of the Umbraco 5 features, but that could take the better part of a year. Note that Umbraco is free, so I didn't technically pay for it, but I value my time very much.

I've leant the opposite lesson. Other than screen and storage size, my Samsung Galaxy S2 is inferior to the HTC desire I had previously in almost every way. And there is no sign of Android 4.0 for the Galaxy S2 either.
Really? I updated my S2 (AT&T) to the offical carrier released 4.0.3 nearly a month ago...here is a list of the devices that already have the ICS update available or will get it [^]

Thanks, I hope this is the case.. but no official news from HTC (apart from the fact that they removed Desire HD from the initial upgrade list) worries me (and thousands of other Desire HD users).

Who you with? I just downloaded the Samsung software to connect my Galaxy S II and check for updates about 2 minutes before seeing this post. I'm with Optus and they didn't make an update for my last Samsung Android phone even though all other parts of the world and their carriers did. I reckon I'll find no Android update available and Optus just won't give a shit. I might be surprised, bit I doubt it.

I agree entirely. I had the choice between a Samsung Galaxy tab and a Transformer. Chose the Samsung to help support them against Apple. The transformer has already been updated to ICS and the update to Jelly Bean has been announced. My Samsung is still on Honeycomb, with no updates announced. It is so annoying. I really need to find time to install the Cyanomod - it's meant to be better anyway.

I'm in exactly in the same situation... Been having a dhd for a year and a bit now, and was really looking forward to ICS... Now I hate HTC with all my heart, and I don't think I'll ever buy anything from them. The One X was on the list of possible replacements, but I guess I'll just go with S3, or a Samsung :(. HTC is just dead to me now

I just went to the Samsung Galaxy S II[^] page and under Samsung Kies 2.0 clicked the Download for Windows_12054 button. I then installed the software, connected my Samsung Galaxy S II via the USB cable and it automatically detected a Firmware Upgrade. I installed it and it turns out I now have Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 installed. May eventually get around to looking at what has changed, but the interface looks pretty much the same but it is defintiely different.

I was an early adoptor of Windows Phone 7 (WP7) and decided to go for an HTC Trophy (The only choices on the Vodaphone network). That was a mistake. One particular annoying bug was the phone freezing when playing music (Phone Freeze Forum[^]).
HTC's support was ...lacking, to put it politely. I am now waiting for my contract to end before getting another brand. Samsung or Nokia is on my shortlist so far.

I can't get the pc software to recognise my phone, its been one of many long standing problems

Not sure if it is the same issue, but I had a problem once with my old Samsung Android phone, the drivers weren't loading the phone. I had to uninstall the software and a hold load of drivers that had to be uninstalled individually. After a reboot, I installed the software again and it worked. Did you donload and install the Kies 2.0 software?
