Well, if you'd signed my petition to get mud-wrestling included as an Olympic sport...

I do not get excited by looking at grown people playing games. Someone will win. Hurray! And they'll receive a gold medal (which is 92% silver) and eternal fame. Nah, the "winner" is called "Coca Cola". Keep your sports, I'm playing with my Raspberry :)

Beach Volleyball is in the lead[^], but then the women's gymnastics start tomorrow and that'll deserve some slow motion viewing. Seriously. Outside of the big three - athletics, cycling and swimming - what spor are you most excited about watching during the games? For me it is always the rowing, those guys and gals are amazing.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any shooting sports on the television yet. I like swimming, diving, weightlifting as they were on the most this weekend. I'd like to see some track and field though. I'll admit it, I pretty much like watching every Olympic sport, except soccer. Has anyone watched fencing? It looks like something out of Tron now.[^] Last night I watched slalom canoe, that was crazy looking.

I just enjoy the variety and getting a sampling of sports I'd never normally bother with. Every two years (since I watch the Commonwealth Games as well) it's worth looking at different things. Field hockey is always a good watch.

Fencing is big in Hungary, they've won one the men's events already. It is a bit frakin mental though.

I feel the same way, I get really geeked out seeing sports I otherwise would never watch, and often (like slalom canoe), never even heard of.

i watched the women's fencing finals. it was pretty wild, with the faceless competitors, all the stark black and the blinking neon and LEDs, and the official who only spoke in French and who we only saw in silhouette. very retro tech.

i kept waiting to see some shooting, but it never came on. wildest was women's foil fencing. badminton was cute. water polo looked utterly exhausting (tread water while holding a ball above your head while some monstrous Lithuanian guy tries to drown you!)

They had a technical problem: they placed the cameramen between the targets to film the competitors while they were shooting, and it did not turn well.

i watched the women's fencing finals. it was pretty wild, with the faceless competitors, all the stark black and the blinking neon and LEDs, and the official who only spoke in French and who we only saw in silhouette. very retro tech.

Okay, so I wasn't the only person thinking that! It looked like 60's mod sci-fi event. It was so cool looking. With the contrast of the background and bright lights on the athletes, it was much easier to see the foil/épée/sabre and contact. I know a few people who want to try fencing now, myself included.
