So since Friday I have been having a little problem that is sorta freaking me out. I call it "food mode" but here is a little description: When I eat, or am around food I have an uncontrollable urge to just eat. I will eat until I almost get sick, and then I summon the will power (for fear of vomiting) to stop. While I'm sitting with actual pain in my stomach from eating to much, I'm still hungry. Like my mind and body are telling me I need to eat. I will continue eating until there is no more readily available food. Even when I stop eating, the hungry feeling lasts around 15 minutes after. It's like munchies I guess, but like a super uncontrollable version. So far I've been able to do things like salad, steamed veggies, cheese sticks, veggie straws, etc, so I haven't been blowing my calories out of the water. It's been kinda freaking me out because I can't really control it. My first thought after a couple of days in a row was that I need to excercise more so I don't gain any weight. Now I think that maybe it's not normal. It certainly feels like a problem. Thoughts? -edit The list of foods above is in addition to the meal. I still eat the planned meal as well. -end

    If it moves, compile it

Sounds normal to me...that's why I stopped buying food that takes less than 30 minutes to make, it's the only way I can control how much I'm eating.

I get this a couple of times a week. It's generally the day after I've increased the distance I run in the mornings or after I've upped the weight I lift at the gym. I think it's my body trying to cope with the new amount of exertion. You mentioned you have started riding your bicycle to work. Have you adjusted your daily calorie intake to account for this?

Sounds like your body is craving protein to rebuild muscles. I don't see any meat on your list of foods, so maybe a fistful of sunflower seeds (unsalted)?

Binge eating (or Compulsive Eating Disorder) could be a sign of a neurological disorder where the brain either does not get or is ignoring (chemical) signals from the stomach and intestines that it has and is processing food. I recommend a lobotomy. Or purging. Really, what did you expect from a programmer? See a doctor.

Any time I'm around food, more so when I start eating. I think that if I had a bunch of food around me that was quick to make or ready to eat I'd actually be able to make myself sick.

Do you have food and exercise logs? I'd keep track of everything to see if you can recognize a pattern. Does this happen on rest days, or more on training days? Are you getting enough rest days? How much real food are you eating vs. processed? Are you cutting, gaining or just maintaining? Also, have you started any new supplements or made any changes to your workout schedule? Also, make sure that you are getting enough fat, protein and vitamins when you eat. Those produce stronger fullness signals to your body. If it becomes an issue find someone that understands your nutrition and exercise needs, a regular MD probably wouldn't have the best advice.

Actually thinking back to when this started I did do something different. I didnt eat much through the day, and ate to make it up at the end of the day. I ate once and then ate again about two hours later. I remember, after reading your link, telling my wife that I felt happy. I was absolutely stuffed, and still under my calorie limit. I hadn't been stuffed like that since about mid Feb. and it just made me feel good to be full. Like on thanksgiving I guess. That was the day it started. Maybe I broke myself doing that. I need to figure out how to fix it now :(

This doesn't look like a balanced diet. Apart of the jokes, as pre-doctors, the best we can tell you is go and see a doctor.

Don't blame me. I voted for Chuck Norris.

No, I don't adjust my calories when I'm dieting. I also didn't stay with riding the bike. Scheduling and needs around the house changed so I had to stop. I haven't been getting to work out in the mornings lately either. So I'm actually doing less I think.

Sounds like your body is craving protein to rebuild muscles. I don't see any meat on your list of foods, so maybe a fistful of sunflower seeds (unsalted)?

That list was what I ate aside from what I planned to eat. I'm not really lacking protein, especially with my protein shakes. On the other hand we've started to do different workouts to train for the tough mudder coming up. I have been sore (good thing, but does show I'm building muscle).

It happens every day at any eating time or near food.

Probably not. I tend to take one day off a week now that we started tough mudder training. I didn't used to take a day off at all. I did at least once every day, and twice on week days.

Evening foods lately have been processed about 1/2 - 3/4 of the time. I have been having a shake in the mornings, but that's been going on for a while now, and this just started.

cutting. Just started again a week or two ago after being on maintaining a while.

Any time I'm around food, more so when I start eating. I think that if I had a bunch of food around me that was quick to make or ready to eat I'd actually be able to make myself sick.

Most of what I eat is rice and chicken (I'm unimaginative when it comes to cooking, I have no problem eating the same thing everyday). Can't eat the rice uncooked, and the chicken is frozen (I steam it with the rice, so it defrosts as it cooks), so there's at least a cook and prep time barrier. But when one of my room mates cooks something it's a lot harder to eat a healthy amount, and I can't have snacks around because I won't stop eating them until they're gone.

This doesn't look like a balanced diet. Apart of the jokes, as pre-doctors, the best we can tell you is go and see a doctor.

again, that is in addition to what I planned on eating. I still ate the regular meal.

I used to be fine just not having snack foods around. I see what you are saying about the cooking thing though. I need to make sure that I have to cook. Sounds like it could be a solution. I have to side step my will power again like when I was fat. I had to stop keeping chips and stuff in the house because I had no control. I only kept healthy foods around and that solved the problem. Now the inner fat kid is coming out and I need to trick him as well.
