Problems eating, wtf?

    So since Friday I have been having a little problem that is sorta freaking me out. I call it "food mode" but here is a little description: When I eat, or am around food I have an uncontrollable urge to just eat. I will eat until I almost get sick, and then I summon the will power (for fear of vomiting) to stop. While I'm sitting with actual pain in my stomach from eating to much, I'm still hungry. Like my mind and body are telling me I need to eat. I will continue eating until there is no more readily available food. Even when I stop eating, the hungry feeling lasts around 15 minutes after. It's like munchies I guess, but like a super uncontrollable version. So far I've been able to do things like salad, steamed veggies, cheese sticks, veggie straws, etc, so I haven't been blowing my calories out of the water. It's been kinda freaking me out because I can't really control it. My first thought after a couple of days in a row was that I need to excercise more so I don't gain any weight. Now I think that maybe it's not normal. It certainly feels like a problem. Thoughts? -edit The list of foods above is in addition to the meal. I still eat the planned meal as well. -end

    It sounds like your body's craving something you're not eating; protein, maybe? I'm getting a bit of that at the moment. I'm 3 weeks away from doing a marathon, so I've been running 40 miles a week and biking 50-60 miles. I get the raving lunatic munchies in the evening :-O.

        Ok, that might be the case, but if I understand the rest of what you said, you are training at a higher level than you have trained at before. You are dealing with the stress from your sponsorship, and you are cutting. I'm also assuming that you aren't keeping logs because you haven't mentioned them at all. You should rule out the chance that this is a medical condition. You should also definitely run this by your trainer or coach. If you don't have one, you probably need to get one, especially if you are looking to go pro. It's not something you need if you just want to stay in shape, but managing intense training sessions over a long period of time is a skill completely separate from actually doing the work. You should have a training and eating plan with periodization, tapering and rest, and it's a lot easier to stick to it if someone is working with you.

        I keep a calorie journal when I'm cutting which includes the food I eat and calorie content (not protein, carb, fat grams). I don't keep a workout log though

          It seems to me that you have displayed incredible self control in getting to where you want to be. How about digging a little deeper and finding a touch more now? I know you are motivated and determined: try showing some of the steel you'll need in the ring.

          I tend to agree with you and think I'm just being a pussy. However, that doesn't change things. Eating food that is not high in calories is all I've came up with for now. Trying to steer clear of things I can eat.

              I just roughly follow the whole macro nutrient level. I make sure I get a bunch of veggies and some fruit, but when I'm hungrier I try to fill up on fat and protein so I'll get fuller. Stuff like this and tracking improvements is a lot easier to keep a handle on when you write it down and can compare it to how you did last time. I haven't kept a workout journal myself, but I've never hit the same level of volume as you. My wife keeps one religiously for her olympic lifting and it's really helped her with progress and managing her food intake through all the different training cycles she goes through.

                I just roughly follow the whole macro nutrient level.                 I think I will try something drastic to change my mindset. I'll probably go more liquid/smoothy for a while. I'll make sure I start working out in the mornings again as well. Hopefully in a week or so of that I'll be cured(ish) again. I just want to lose the last 10 lbs and then I'll go back to maintaining. This was an unexpected quirk... so far it hasn't caused any damage. I just need to kick my brain in the junk and get moving again. I think changing to liquid based will make me think differently, because as it stands I'm losing the argument with myself.

                      Well, I meant more that my diet and sleep patterns got more regular when I worked out in the morning rather than in the evening. I'll always struggle with getting up early though.
