After living in San Antonio for several years (9), you got kind of used to the sad fact that people are murdered everyday. Sometimes for their shoes for crying out loud!

Several people have been shot near the Empire State Building in New York City, the authorities have said. Local news media are reporting that the gunshots were heard before 09:00 (13:00 GMT). The Associated Press news agency said the shooter was dead.
The Torygraph have it as 3, I've seen 4-6 mentioned on Twatter[^].

It's the coddled kids becoming adults in age only. They don't know how to act when any adversity comes around, so they overreact and grab a gun because someone disrespected them. I read an article today that claimed a woman killed someone with a pot of coffee. Great. Now we're going to have to get background checks to buy a coffee pot, and ammo for it will be even more expensive. Of course, the liberals will push for pots to only be capable of holding two cups of coffee (we don't want any high-capacity pots being available to criminals, and they won't want anyone carrying around a loaded pot of coffee.

Not anymore. Lived there from 4th grade to graduation, then joined the Air Force. I am out of the Air Force now and currently live in Ohio. :)

The shooting took place in the street, not the office. The gun was purchased in Florida in 1991. Should everyone who ever purchased a gun be submitted to searches? Realistically, he bought the gun 21 years ago. What policy could prevent this, keeping in mind plenty of people have guns bought 20+ years ago. If anyone is interested in what I think the discussion should be about, it is what to do when people are mentally ill but function in society and/or what to do when people make direct threats of violence. He made a threat of violence to the man he killed in April of 2011. It is now coming out that the Batman shooter made threats of violence to his college and was subsequently barred from campus. My point? Instead of blanket laws and bans on "scary" guns, perhaps threats should be taken more serious. Perhaps people aware of threats that do nothing should be held liable, criminally. Perhaps the FBI background check that gun purchases go through should include mental health records, restraining order, and all possible threats of violence. Nobody in the government likes to discuss these ugly details, but everyone in the government likes to discuss disarming.

Ever time there is one of these instances someone allways says "if they didnt have guns they would use xxxx" do you actually believe it? if it was difficult to obtain guns ie banned, then yes some will still get them but a much restrictive subset, yes there will be other deaths with other weapons but nothing like the levels that such easy access to guns provide, stop justify the unjustifiable, if you want guns then accept that they are going to kill. however dont condem those who wish for a country where a disagrement with an ex employee can lead to death, in most countries with sensible guin laws this usually leads to a few bruises
