Fancy a look? Android App for viewing/searching CodeProject
-
Hi there, To start off with I will point out that I am not part of the CodeProject team nor would I try to do work for them (that would just be job creation! :D ). With that in mind I would like to present (my first Android app), an app for Android for browsing and searching CodeProject! I have posted it on CodePlex as I have not had time to post an article on CodeProject yet, but I plan to. You can find it here: http://ecncodeprojectapp.codeplex.com/[^] I wanted to learn Android (or at least the basics) and I had been looking for a Code Project app to make browsing CP on my phone easier. Well no app existed so I decided it would be simple enough to make and so here it is! :) The documentation etc. is, well, non-existent and the code is a bit messy still but if you feel like just downloading the APK to your phone and having a look I would much appreciate it! The app is not totally bug free (inevitably) and not fully complete (when is a project ever complete?) but I wanted to see if people liked my approach. I developed it on a physical Samsung Galaxy S2 so it probably works best on that. No guarantees on performance/quality when using a smaller (or possibly even larger) screen sizes or slower phones - sadly I do not have the full facilities to test thoroughly yet. Hope you like it (and don't succeed in breaking it too quickly! Although I know there are some articles it fails to load properly - reason as yet unknown). Thanks, Ed Edit: Here's a "most-of" feature list: - Latest articles list - View articles - - Stores a "back-list" of articles - - Cache's article text and images for offline reading - - Can be refreshed to overwrite cache - - Can open links to files and external links in the web browser for further viewing - Search - Stores a "back-list" of searches - View account profiles - - Under settings, set your Account Name to load your account details - - Remembers previous points and tells you how many you've gained since last use - - Includes viewing articles & tip/tricks - Remembers tab from last use - Custom font-size can be set - Can disable rotation for just this app

Something I was just about to look at! My only fear is that it may cost money... Can you give any helpful links/advice for publishing to the market? Thanks, Ed P.s. Market also doesn't allow posting of source code something that I thought would be good to do.

Hmmm...looks like it costs $25 USD and I would have to give Google my phone number - not sure I want to do that right now...maybe if the project gets a bit more serious. Ed

Costs $25 for Google's pockets. Set up a merchant account with them and tie a bank account to it.( something such as a Walmart card works as well as long as you can direct deposit to it.) They take 30% of the top of everything sold and deposit the rest in your account. Once you set up the app as a freebie on the market, I am not sure you can change it to a paid, you would have to have a different version. Typically people(including me) do a "lite" version that's free to try and get people to like it, then a paid version that has more bells and whistles. Or a totally free version that has ads buried in it.
Common sense is not a gift it's a curse. Those of us who have it have to deal with those that don't.... Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

In the UK? I'd be surprised if anyone had one... ;p I would do it as a freebie without ads if I were to publish it on the market (as has been said, it's only an initial $25). However, at the moment I do not have the means to set up a Google account to do this (did I omit to mention I'm 16? ;) ) Ed

I'm sure that there is some equivilent to it over there though. Any type of card where you can deposite money on it, that will take a direct deposit would work. 16 could be an issue though, not sure on that one. Kudos for getting off your teenage butt and doing something like this at 16. So many kids I see are content to do nothing and have no ambition.

Yes there probably is (Nectar card, Sainsbury's card...in fact every supermarket seems to run its own credit card system in some form or other!) Thanks! :) I don't think I really remember the last time I actually stopped being busy with something (excluding holidays & some evening relaxing - we are all allowed those ;p ). Take a look at my profile - I updated my info this morning (before it had no info...). I have plenty of ambition and a lot of drive so I think I'll be going places soon :) Ed
