After the furore of there 'racist' doodle[^]. They are now trying to say that Google is racially profiling names in e-mails[^] in order to target their advertising more efficiently. Am I alone in failing to see what is racist about this? The only thing that I can see that is remotely wrong with this is the fact that they scan your e-mails in the first place. I don't see how using someone's name to determine they are French say, and then showing them adverts for crossiants and Baguettes, or warm Beer and Bacon for an Englishmen any more wrong than any of the other criteria they use when selecting targeted advertisements. Anyone see this different?

If I was an advertiser and saw the name "Mohammed Abdul Khan" I would probably decide it was pointless trying to advertise Malt Whiskey or Pork Pies. Should I see a Bruce McKenzie I would deffo advertise Qantas Flights and Boomerang Oil. Paddy O'Reilly would not be my first choice for Condom Lubricant whereas Owen Griffiths would be sent details of our line of inflatable sheep. It is not racist, it is using common sense to target marketing.

"Racial profiling" has become a "dirty word". It's just statistics, but when race is in any way involved, people get their high moral horses from the stables and parade them around.

Racial profiling might be true to some extent. But then, this dies not affect me as I hardly notice adverts on right side or on top (as in CP). This is probably my lack of attention to details. BTW, I also use AdBlock. For supposedly racist doodle: bullshit.

May be a decade back or earlier this used to happen. I have never seen this.

The title of the image is Indian Commuter Train.

Ok.It must be a stereo-typical image we see in films over here, when they show a Train in India they show it so packed that everybody sits on top. Looks quite dangerous if you ask me.
