3.4 just after midnight. Pretty sure bed actually lifted off the floor and seemed like it lasted for about 30 seconds. Epicenter was about a mile away.

My first week in California (San Jose, to be exact), there was an earthquake around 3 in intensity. The way I knew it was, the chandelier started swinging. Nothing else happened. You get about 20 quakes a week in Northen California. Was in the computer room when the big one hit San Francisco. Ran out to the parking lot. Went to a supermarket to buy bottled water and some emergency food items. All traffic lights were off. The supermarket was cleaning up after bottles of ketchup (and other bottles too) had fallen off the shelves so won't let me in. Went to the nearby liquor store and watched the Marina burn. Went back to the computer room and everything was fine. Saw the TV news where they showed the collapsed Oakland Bay Bridge and the double-decked Interstate 880 which had collapsed on to itself trapping hundreds of cars and drivers. (There were of course no passengers, it is illegal in California to have more than one person occupy a car :laugh: ). Later on, there were jokes about concrete sandwich made with "traffic" jam. So, a 3.4 is nothing. Rest easy.:rose:

After growing up in the PRC, and living on top of the Big Bear/Landers double quake, I don't roll out of bed for less than a 7.0. After that one, we locals renamed Big Bear City "Chimney Falls." :-D

It was quite a ride in Crestline, CA! My favorite lady at the time was lying on the couch, after she called me not one minute after the first one hit, recovering from the first one when the second one hit. She went from the couch to the doorway 8' away in one smooth motion, and I never saw her feet hit the floor. Quite a feat, considering that she's not a small woman, about 5' 10". I was rather impressed at the time! :-D For the first round, I was at home sleeping, on the third floor of a downslope, three-story building of which I rented the top two floors. My main floor had a front door which led to stairs up to the parking landing, and the top half of the door was window. Looking up I saw my first mountain lion, resting on the top step with her tail a twitching in agitation. She being a good 6' in length and obviously nervous, I decided that the better part of valor would be best served by watching TV for a time, rather than rushing out to shut off the gas, as the "experts" recommend. Damn, that lion was beautiful! I'd seen the tracks on hikes for many years when I lived in the mountains, but never laid eyes on one. What a magnificent animal!

That's not an earthquake, that's a temblor. Nothing to lose sleep over...

Is it true that you're not supposed to go outside during an earthquake? I wonder why that is. Seems like it'd be pretty safe.
Well it's obvious duh. Just have a look around after an earthquake, the town is full of homeless people, they obviously have a better survival chance.

I spent a lot of time, and built a lot of good memories at Deep Creek; not all of them with clothing intact. I haven't had the heart to visit since the big fire a few years ago destroyed the place. So sad, to drive the Rim of the World Highway and no longer see the trees and dogwoods I so loved when I lived there among them... The fire crews performed a heroic miracle in saving all those homes, but I would have been more pleased if they'd let the homes burn, and saved my forest... Homes can be rebuilt in months, but forests take decades to recover. I won't live long enough to see my only home restored to its former glory. :((

It is pretty amazing how much it's come back since the 2007 Slide fire. There's still plenty of recovery, but I do see it slowly coming back. As far as the dogwoods go, Kuffel Canyon Rd has had a lot of awesome blooms with them during the spring the past several years. I always make sure that's the way I go to Stater Brother's in Arrowhead :-D

Is that before or after yoy crap yourself? :) Fine, possibly, if you have time but I'm on the 5th floor and was asleep. Best thing to do is to get into a doorway and hope it isn't the big one. Like many people I know I have an emergencey kit though I often wonder what good it would do me if there was a disaster.
