I still find it odd that we have laws with prison terms for annoying someone online, but no defense from corporations. I was just considering this when I got an automated advertisement call on my cell phone from a blocked number.

    If it moves, compile it

Annoying, aren't they? You can set most Caller ID devices to refuse incoming calls that block the source number. The problem is that when you do that, it means you can't get through when you are calling from a Hospital phone in an emergency...

Yeah, this is the reason I haven't considered it. I generally won't answer a number I don't know because it's almost always something like this, but that's the same thing as having it blocked.

Never heard of 'automated' advertisement calls. :| How do they prevent you from hanging up halfway the first sentence? Why do they think annoying people by invading their personal space helps them to sell more stuff? Has to be a lot less effective, more expensive and on a much smaller scale than regular e-mail spam. Which also isn't exactly the best way to advertise stuff, let's be honest.

We only realised my elder brother had it on all his phones when we needed to reach him from the "family room" of Accident and Emergency Resuscitation Department, where they definitely do not appreciate the use of mobile phones... Ended up having to ring a friend, and get him to pass the bad news on X|

What pisses me off even more is that I've entered my number 4-5 times in the National Do Not Call registry and it lasts for about 1-2 months then I start getting calls again.

They are "cold call" sales calls, where there is no dickhead operative available to get sworn at talk to you, so they give you an advert instead of silence - the latter being illegal in the UK.

Weird, I entered mine once and never get telemarketer calls on it..but then again it's a cell phone, and I think the laws are stricter on those in the US. Just another reason to not bother with a house phone I suppose.

I used to get spam calls too. Then I got annoyed and I threatened to report one of companies I was getting calls from. Didn't work. Then I actually reported them. Don't know what happened with my complaint, but I suddenly stopped getting calls from ALL of them.

I stopped using my phone for a while and it caused lots of issues (especially and more importantly with the wife). So I just changed my number. I cleared out all the people, but not the advertising. Half win?

Good. I hope more people do what you've done. If I were a millionaire I'd file harassment lawsuits against shady advertisers. My goal would be to shut them down, take all of their stuff, and leave them naked, cold, and without food on an iceberg. I'd start with the interwebs. Did a Michigan Mom really discover a weird trick to save tons on auto insurance? If you cannot take me to the Michigan Mom who discovered it I'm suing. Either that, or I'd just pay gangs to beat them up. I've not decided.

I used to get spam calls too. Then I got annoyed and I threatened to report one of companies I was getting calls from. Didn't work. Then I actually reported them. Don't know what happened with my complaint, but I suddenly stopped getting calls from ALL of them.

I still find it odd that we have laws with prison terms for annoying someone online, but no defense from corporations. I was just considering this when I got an automated advertisement call on my cell phone from a blocked number.

You say corporations get the same rights as a person, but no retribution? It's almost like they right the laws.
