I used the Chrome debugger to view the full images (there are multiple). Much quicker than scrolling. :)

I went to both ends (left and right), explored the entire cave system (I think) and ended up with the dude and the balloon. Amazing! Every blade of grass seems unique. And all the boats, rockets, listening posts, graveyards, etc, etc! Blew me away.

BIG time, this thing is HUGE! sky, ocean, mountains, buildings. plus extras. I wonder if he'll put up a "over view map" ( hope not, makes for a good "sit back and smell the roses" ).

Check the xkcd forum thread; several people have done those. Others have written JS that will let you make the big image full screen so you can more easily pan and zoom.

Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason? Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful? --Zachris Topelius Training a telescope on one’s own belly button will only reveal lint.
