Got this link[^] and found the statement at the bottom amusing: "According to brain scans, sugar is as addictive as cocaine."

Average American : 53 gallons of soft drinks per year, that's about 3.5L a day a week, nevermind. But still, is this only possible ?

I used to do it. Quite a bit more than that even. I could drink a 12pk of soda just sitting around the house, and even more than that when I was out. We didn't drink anything but soda. Not an ounce of water. Only soda.

        If it moves, compile it

What is crazier is this...I don't drink any soda (except in very rare situations). So, somewhere out there someone is chugging down my 3.5 L/day allowance.

Same here. I did that for about 30 years. I only just cut back drastically (i.e., no more purchase at home or during work (i.e., 5 days a week)) three years ago.

Bullshit, but the problem is finding products that don't have sugar in it. I've cut my sugar intake to nearly zero and fell a lot better. Am borderline type II diabetic so I needed/had to do this.

I did that when I increased my alcohol consumption without changing the amount of sugar.

It's a real problem with us older people. Thinking about getting one of those "Help I've fallen and I can't get up" devices but I would just forget where I put it. :)

Oh, I agree. I think it is a little blown out of proportion, but then that is what most studies are used for these days.

My mother had one of those, on a lanyard round her neck. She would put it on when we got there, and take it off again when we left...

I drink a strict limit of 24 ounces of Coke( Cola kind for the trouble makers here) a day period, no tolerance for going outside my rules. so somebody is drinking the rest of my share as well.

3.5L a week is 500ml a day. 24 fl oz is about 700ml. So if you drink that every day then you're above average.
