I agree with the guy there. Reason: His suggestions mean a massive code rewrite all across the software World. This leads to lots of job opportunities which in turn create outsourcing. This will help me make some money.

I didn't recommended the rewrite of existing codebase. I've just pointed out something many don't see: flaws in a programming language from a design perspective. I've just mentioned one thing in the first post (headers), and only the smallest negative consequence of it (that started the war). Its unfortunate that it lead into a war instead of a fruitful discussion but that's also okay, partly my mistake. Its also okay to downvote even without reasons because I don't care, my reason for coming here is not scoring points. Points are for rating the content and most of that war is indeed a big one. :-) Still the end worth reading. If you take a look at my first post I've updated it with a link to a more complete list of my complains about C/C++, your comments or own points are also welcomed. It's better to know the dark side as well, even if you are walking in the light. Anyway, I'm the kind of coder who has quite radical views sometimes, I might have some similar posts in the future but I will be much more careful. No one has burnt me for my comments yet. :cool:

I pointed out the discussion as interesting because I think it was. I was being very serious answering Carlo: In a recent past for some countries and even today in numerous other countries, you cannot argue like that in public, even for trivial subjects, without being in danger. Try and talk about women wearing pants in Iran.

People who have worked for long enough and in many different programming languages (including C/C++) know the benefits and shortcomings of native language programming (or any programming language / technology, for that matter). However, fanbois of [insert programming language here] make discussions like this a bitter troll war. Not my cup of tea.

Well, I though we live in liberty of speech. Just didn't want to build a dream world around a newbie C/C++ coder. My intention was helping. Never heard about burning coders for true statements (about technical stuff) especially on a programmer forum.

C/C++ have a different "model". The compiler based model. The C/C++ approach users are not only developers, but architecture builders and libraries developers. In most languages, you have the companies that support the language, that provide the compiler of the code you write to binary. In C/C++ you have the text based .h, .c and .cpp files that represent a "standard". That standard is implemented by multiple companies by different compilers. To make that work, the standard has to be flexible, easy to implement and should not change (very often). It was designed to be easy to build a compiler and libraries of it. And as a result, the portability of the code would benefit the developer. C/C++ main goals are portability and compatibility (with written code). Easy of use are secondary goals. When you think of C/C++ you must understand that, as a developer, that language was not designed only for you as a user of it.
