That reminds me of that James Bond line in Goldeneye (I think that was the one): Miss Moneypenny to James as he is 'catching up on some Danish': "You always were a cunning linguist James". :-D [edit] I think the James Bond film in question might actually be Tomorrow Never Dies instead. Can anyone confirm this before I die of curiosity and get the DVD's out? ;P

There sometimes seems to be little difference between posts made to the lounge and the soapbox, these days. I'm comfortable reading both boards, but wondered how people interpreted the word "rant"? To me, if you are going to put in expletives, even if you cunningly (or not so, IMO) disguise them with a bunch of asterisks, or even via upper and lower case code (I mean, come on, my 10 year old could suss that one out!!), then they should be in the soapbox, surely? And also some of us regulars who should know better slip up, or just get angry and say something we shouldn't. Many a parent has sworn in front of their kids at a bad moment. BTW, would you consider my use of "farking" as a bad thing?

I'll check my guide to expletives and get back to you. Can I just check as to whether you meant to allude to farting or fucking, or, indeed some expletive which may well not be documented in the Oxford Expletives Dictionary? It makes a big difference, you see. Debbie

No Mrs. Debs. *Paul goes to the dunce corner and starts writing out his lines* ;) I just wanted to know if my use of the word farking in the Lounge is by your standards of Lounge Material, obscene. Would my kid sister know what I am talking about and then be predisposed to yelling "fucking" all the time because I do? (I don't yell fucking all the time, just an example.) And surely if a kid knows that farking means fucking then they don't need any help from me anyway? Also, ladies should not use that word.

It depends on how you look at it. If we consider a "lady" or "gentleman" to be someone who fits into society's narrow view of what they should be, then let the concept die naturally. :) If on the other hand, we consider it as a way of treating people, then the opposite. :-D Having said, that, "ladies" and "gentlemen" leaves people who sit directly astride the gender divide out in the cold...and there's more of them around than there are people like me....it's just that they're hiding. Something else to ponder I guess. Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk

I believe these concepts are antagonist with the one of equality between men and women.

Oh god no, stop it with all those laughs! As a newly initiated Trillian user I just had a side-splitting encounter with Paul and his LMAO's. It's the first time I've had shots of neat vodka before evening hours just to settle me down since I left college. All this farking has me with wild images of Paul (still, oddly, black and white) on all fours running round on the floor between my legs like a cat does when it wants food wildly throwing his head into the air and farking like there's no tomorrow. Fark fark FARK! Fark! Fark fark! FARK FARK FARK! Argghhhhh!! Please please stop it! This is starting to head down a road I'd rather not tread on! :omg:  :-O

Fair enough. What I was alluding to is that there are many people out there for which "male" or "female" just doesn't fit (e.g. the intersexed Aussie recently awarded a legal gender of "X"), and they're rather left out! Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk
