http://mashable.com/2012/10/15/space-jump-youtube-record/[^] Concurrent Youtube Streams: 8 Million Highest jump from a platform: 128,100 feet Longest distance freefall: 119,846 feet Maximum vertical velocity: 833.9 mph or Mach 1.24, makes Baumgartner the first human to break the sound barrier outside of an aircraft. What a legend! Were you one of the 8 Million watching the Youtube live stream? Me the kids and wife were watching. We were bricking it for Felix, as he stepped out onto the platform. And the moment he leant forward to go, I think my heart skipped a few beats :omg:

Yup, one of those 8 million... Did he get the longest freefall TIME as well or is that still with Kittinger?

No, don't think he did. Given he was going for a speed record, I don't think they were expecting to beat the existing time record.

I didn't realise that the records he was breaking were 50 years old. That is remarkable.

Arsene Wenger didn't see the Bumgardener incident, but he believes it is unfair to call it a dive. There may have been a little bit of contact.

Nope - his visor fogged up and he couldn't read his instruments. So he erred on the side of caution and opened his 'chute early, by about 14 seconds. Sensible chap. I'd probably have been tempted to open the chute about 14 seconds after stepping off the platform. Or more likely about 14 seconds before entering the capsule in the first place!

The Budweiser Rocket was reportedly airborne during a section of its (supposed) supersonic run so I guess you could argue that Stan Barrett was the first person flying, without a plane, supersonic. But only if you beleive they managed it. Which I don't. For the record. I'll get my coat.

So 128,100 feet means nothing to you, but 39,045 metres gives you an instant grasp of the distance? For me, personally, fucking high is all I really need.

While the records this guy broke are cool and all but this guy has broken the law in a bunch of countries by base jumbing off of buildings and the like. Should we really be celebrating someone who scoffs at laws in other countries, for a few minutes of cheap thrills?

What a legend! Were you one of the 8 Million watching the Youtube live stream? Me the kids and wife were watching. We were bricking it for Felix, as he stepped out onto the platform. And the moment he leant forward to go, I think my heart skipped a few beats :omg:

What I want to know is did he hear the sonic boom? By the time he slowed down enough for it to catch up to him, was he too far away to hear it?

While the records this guy broke are cool and all but this guy has broken the law in a bunch of countries by base jumbing off of buildings and the like. Should we really be celebrating someone who scoffs at laws in other countries, for a few minutes of cheap thrills?

Slacker was a scrappy fella. While not all enjoyed his humor he was appreciated in the community. I like to think that Chuck took him out silently, but even though it was likely silent it probably hurt as his fist when through his skull smashing his keyboard into tiny pieces. RIP Slacker.:rose:
