Microsoft just don't seem to want my money.

Microsoft have opened up Surface RT for pre-order. Hurrah! Unfortunately I still can't get one because I'm not in my home country right now. I'm a Brit in Australia, for another few months yet. But I want to put in an order so there will be a nice shiny Surface tablet waiting on my coffee table when I get home to ease those post-holiday blues. So imagine my disappointment when I hit up the Microsoft store... First I get the USA store. Not quite what I was after. Bit presumptuous, but I can see where there's coming from, (so far). So I look up the UK store (I even used Bing). Its at http://emea.microsoftstore.com/UK/en-GB[^] - Notice all those subtle hints to the website that I want a site for a country in the EMEA region, a country called "UK", and just to hammer the point home, a country where they used en-GB instead of en-AU But alas, I get redirected to the Australia store at http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/home[^] I've tried several other links including Bing and Google's cached pages and it still won't let me into the UK store. FFS Microsoft. What is the problem here? Amazon can do it, Apple can do it, even WeBuyAnyCar.com can do it. Go ahead and give me the store for the country I'm in first of all, because that covers 99.999% of visitors, (I've written plenty of sites to do just that myself), but then after that allow me to chose my own country. Don't actively prevent it. I typed "UK/en-GB" for a reason, its the page I want to visit. This just reminds me of the 3 months it took to fix up my Xbox-live account so I could buy an app for Windows phone 7. I have a Hotmail.com address and so they decided I must be American and so then they could only sell me stuff from the USA store with a USA credit card and USA address. Their official answer - go ahead and get a new email address. I would also have loved to have had a Zune HD but that wasn't allowed either. I just want to buy your products. Is that such a problem?

I'm tired of putting up with this kind of annoying behaviour from websites. So now I just pay for VPN service so I can switch the country the web servers think I'm in with a few clicks. Makes life super simple. It's such a shame its come to that though.

Yeah but Google[^] can't fucking do it! Actually I'd say it is b/c you are in Oz, we get to pay a premium for any product, especially IT, so most market sites won't allow an Oz located user to access or buy from other sites. This is such a contentious issue that there are ministerial inquiries into why Oz should be charged a premium for such things as downloaded software!

Yeah but Google[^] can't fucking do it! Actually I'd say it is b/c you are in Oz, we get to pay a premium for any product, especially IT, so most market sites won't allow an Oz located user to access or buy from other sites. That's one of 2 reasons why I was trying to buy in the UK. I've seen the price of SD cards here (as well as the $3 or more for a 600ml bottle of Coke) and so I knew it would be cheaper in the UK. However, I do have a special VPN labelled "Watch Dr Who", (its slower than 1997 to browse the web but I persevered), and behold this amazing result - 32BG without cover on the AUS site is $559.00 That's £359.43 at todays rate according to Google. On the UK site it will cost £399.00 10% cheaper in Aus 32BG with cover is $679.00 (£436.59) in Australia Or £479.00 in the UK 9% cheaper 64BG with cover $789 (£506.82) in Australia £559.00 in the UK 10% cheaper again Surprised the h*** out of me. Now for that reason #2. All I need is an address in Australia to have it shipped to.

I tried to renew my partner account and pay my action pack fee, but the new website kept running me around in circles. So I tried for over a period of 4 months, wrote them, called them, and gave up. This was 4 years ago. But I did get the email today saying the new microsoft store is now open at South Coast Plaza, just 12 miles away from me, and everything is available. Sometimes I wonder about them, guess their busy figuring out what car to buy, or picking out stone counter tops for the kitchen.

Microsoft Marketing is just BullShit! I think Steve might have injected a couple of Apple loyalists into Microsoft marketing team. Apple guys execute anything great. MS thinks shooting at its feet is a way of innovation. I'm just waiting to see through which innovation strategy they are going to kill Windows Phone 8.
