If you need any perspective. I have 7 herniated discs, sciatic pain in the right leg and my back has hurt non-stop for the past 5 years. My pain level everyday is around a 5 to 8. If it peaks and I don't have medicine to arrest it then I will transcend to 10 and beyond. I know more about pain, chronic-pain, doctors, nurses and drugs than anyone else I know. My back is the post-war Heroshima of my body. I mean no offense with that statement, it is both accurate and convenient as conveyor of truth and testament to constant pain. I doubt Japan will ever heal and neither will I. Let me know if you want advice. Oh and BTW beware of epidural steroid injections. They are a farse and they hurt like hell focused on the head of a needle. I have had 8 and I will have no more.

There have been joys too great to be described in words, and there have been griefs upon which I have not dared to dwell, and with these in mind I say, climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are naught without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end. - Edward Whymper Climb On!

I have the same type of issues. We seem to have a lot in common.

    If it moves, compile it

Given the fungal meningitis outbreak (related to this injections), and the fact that I will die from any sort of injury or infection of the brain (due to previous injury and treatment), I will not get one.

Instead of responding to everyone with the same information, I'd like to say thank you guys for the input. I just made an appointment with my nurse practitioner (she specializes in sports and orthopedic medicine) for later today. For those unfamiliar, she can prescribe meds/PT/treatment, order tests, etc, and has a Doctorate in nursing. I'll keep you guys updated if you care, or if you just want me to post while on muscle relaxers, I can do that.

Recently, I have had pains in my heel, knee and hip. At first, the medicos thought I had Achilles Tendonitis, Arthritis of the knee, and Sacro Iliac problems, as three different illnesses. Then my PT noticed that I had very tight muscles in my left leg, and a tight ILT band, and we realized that this was causing all three problems, plus charley horses and other stuff. So now I'm stretching, building up strength and taping, and the problems have diminished in intensity. The assumption is that continued PT treatment will resolve the problems completely.

It's funny. People have good and bad results from both doctors and chiropractors. The reason I wouldn't go to a chiro is that my underlying condition is so rare that I can't be treated and fixed like everyone else. I basically can't trust anyone except an expert in my condition to help, and chiros are not experts in my condition. My doctor ended up recommending that I go to PT, a massage therapist, and chiro, or any combination, but that if it gets worse to come back. I'm opting for PT and MT.

PT was very expensive for me, in the past. You too?

Haha, I had to relearn how to walk when I was 16. Inpatient hospital PT for a month, then outpatient PT 5 days a week for over a year, 3-8 hours a day. The insurance company put a lien on my parents house from the bills (over $200k I believe by the time I was 18, though that included a surgery). I'm not really sure how it will work out now. I believe on my current provider it won't be too bad if I don't go an absolute ton. I've gone back in the past few years on occasion to help do certain things and my out of pocket was low, but only like 8-10 sessions were covered.
