MAC does not support .Net and visual studio 2012

I didnt think Macs could play blu rays anyway. Something to do with Apple refusing to implement the Blu-Ray system requirements. If I remember corrctly, Windows has a whole hidden layer to ensure the video data is always encrypted and protected to prevent its possible theft. To the point of only writing encrypted data to the page file, etc. Apple have wisely said sod-off to the blu-ray people on this, hence no blu-ray support. Yes, blu-ray video data is treated more securely than any other data on a windows system, tax record, medical records, financial records, not as important as a movie.

Not natively, but there's an app for that.

If it is not yet, then you can't be for sure osx will be your future, it would be wiser to spend less on a apple product until you know for sure you are going to do it for real. Would it not be better to by a cheaper one. or a mac-mini etc.

I had considered that, but there is a conference coming up that I want to have a good laptop for. Also, I want to have one with an SSD (tired of HDD's). I figure if I'm going to go half the distance, I may as well go all the way.

I can use it regardless. One of the first things I'm going to do is install Windows on it. I figure this configuration of hardware will last me 3 to 6 years.

False and false. First, it does support .Net, via Mono. Secondly, it supports Visual Studio 2012 because it supports Windows 7 (and I think Windows 8 now too). You can install Windows in its own partition, or you can install it into a VM that runs in a way that integrates with OS X.

Yes, but not here. Try ebay!

I have heard that used Macs sell for almost as much as the new ones. I guess buyer's remorse is common with Apple products. :)

Could I buy a laptop for the cost of the AppleCare Protection Plan
Depends on your definition of "laptop". If by "laptop" you mean the thing I'm typing this reply on right now, then sure (if you could even call this abomination a laptop). Keep in mind, though, that this MacBook Pro will serve as both my laptop and my primary computer. It's two for the price of 8! Such a good deal!

I can only pay this much if I have a good excuse.
I see your point. Because my last laptop cost me $500 and has many issues (powers down randomly, freezes, can't play Blu-rays or run VM's), the money I saved on that purchase justifies paying more for this purchase. Got it!
:)

I'm 90% certain I will be buying a 15" MacBook Pro Retina with max specs (and most every accessory, including a wireless French keyboard) tomorrow. I'm almost certain it's stupid to spend that much money on a computer, but I am compelled to do so anyway. Please, please, PLEASE list reasons I should not do so. For the love of God, give me some reasons to regret this purchase so that I don't go through with it. I beg of you!

Plenty of debt, but the nice people at the bank said I don't have to pay it all off at once. Actually, I was going to wait until I pay off my car in January, but there is a conference coming up and I won't get much value from it without a new laptop of some type.

Not even as a gift!! I would immediately throw it right out of the window, factory packaged... apple products are nothing but children´s toys...

One of those costs more than 100 bottles of Gordon's and I know which I'd prefer.

You already know it's poor value for money. So just don't do it. You can get an equivalent Windows or Linux machine for far less. I read from one of your other replies that you're already in the red in the cash department, so it makes no sense to unnecessarily blow several hundred dollars on an apple painted on the back of the machine. I have a personal 'no to Apple' approach while they are such an aggressive patent-trolling company and while they operate such a lock-in on their technology (e.g. not letting you develop for iPhone except on a Mac, controlling the apps that are available, not allowing iOS to be run in a VM ...). But even if you don't have ethical problems with them, there's really no question that their hardware is overpriced.
