Tomorrow morning, I'll be taking my 23 year old daughter to the airport as she embarks upon a journey that will change her life and undoubtedly many more. She is flying to the continent of Africa and will begin teaching and caring for HIV positive children in an orphanage in Fort Portal, Uganda. So for my baby girl, Bronwyn, yes tomorrow I will have tears in my eyes as we say goodbye, but they will not only be tears of sadness at your leaving, but tears of a proud and happy father whose daughter wants to improve the lives of others through her efforts. You will make the world a better place. That I know. :)

Wow, that is awesome. Is she doing this on her own, or is this part of a church-based mission?

Thanks Nish. She is volunteering through an organization that coordinates volunteers all over the world. It is known as IVHQ, International Volunteer Head Quarters. :)

Wow, even better. While the end result is the same, I always hold people who do things like this on their own in higher esteem than those who do it for a flight to heaven. Even though they are both good people, the ones who do it out of selfless goodwill have an edge. Of course the world is full of selfish pricks like me who sit and pass judgement from their comfortable chairs. :-)

I visited that area in 2005 and 2006 (short trips only) and found the people to be charming, friendly and hospitable. I'm sure she will have a great time.

One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

Thanks Richard. It's good to get a comment like yours, because if I believed only what's printed in the news, it would be difficult to let her go so easily. :)

                                      Oh yes, the "news"!

One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.
