s/w scenes: work experience & Fresher

Two easy answers: 1. Open source some code of yours. 2. Write an article. I see dumb people
Yeah, that's true. I had little relevant experience when I applied for my current job, but I did have a few websites to show them containing the freeware stuff I'd been doing which seemed to impress them enough -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

:confusedHi all, which come first work experience or job.. if u want to get a job, u need work experience in today's s/w companies.. if u want work experience , U need to get a job first.. so which one.. chicken egg problem ;),pls don't try to write a complex algorithm for this..
It's really easy, do your own work experience at home and show your future employer what you can do. That's what I did, and I have no qualifications at all. Christian No offense, but I don't really want to encourage the creation of another VB developer. - Larry Antram 22 Oct 2002
C# will attract all comers, where VB is for IT Journalists and managers - Michael P Butler 05-12-2002
It'd probably be fairly easy to make a bot that'd post random stupid VB questions, and nobody would probably ever notice - benjymous - 21-Jan-2003 -

fortunately, many of us are out of this loop.. the chicken egg problem may also lead to a cock(the male counterpart of hen)... there the loop breaks up..:)

I have got my last three jobs without showing any CV or qualification. Its hard to get the first one, but if you do that one well, very often the client will have more requirements. Give them a good enough system, and their competition may even want one. benjymous wrote: I had little relevant experience when I applied for my current job, but I did have a few websites to show them containing the freeware stuff I'd been doing which seemed to impress them enough

Not having experience shouldn't matter though, in this case. Assuming you can program, and it's a programming job you're after, then just sit down and write something simple, like a version of space invaders. Be sure to plan it all out, and implement it in a tidy way (with nicely commented modules) and also make sure you finish it. Maybe you could write a CP article documenting how it went and what you did. Basically show that you can work through the entire cycle of a small project sucessfully - it doesn't matter if writing a game is utterly irrelevant to what the job does - people like games, so will be far more impressed having a little game to play than some boring looking dialog app. Then you can put a web address on your CV pointing to an example of what you're capable of. If an employer can look at that and think "Wow, this guy knows what he's doing" then it doesn't matter if you've not got any real experience, as your CV will have made it through the initial sift of CVs -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

I don't know how your scholar system works, but here we have to do training courses in "real world" to validate our diplomas (at least in "technical schools"), so it's possible to valuate these. A solution is also to find temporary jobs during the summer, as said benjymous. If you have to do a military period, it's perhaps possible to do it as an IT engineer through a special program.
