OK, my flast is ghabbered and I'm almost ready to just give up. How long can the rampant insanity in the US Patent Office go unchecked?!?!!? Apple is granted a patent on the rectangle[^] How the elephant is that innovative exactly?...

Their patent is now for rectangles with non-sharp corners. WTF. That won't stop anyone from producing rectangles with extremely sharp corners. And throwing them.

What, you mean like this antique table[^] - I'm pretty sure it predates Apple...

I see from the patent that it took 15 "inventors" to come up with the idea of the rectangle. Sounds like there might be a "how many Apple employees does it take to change a light bulb" joke there somewhere...

Seriously how can the patent office be taken seriously if it passes things like this?

The corners are round. It's like I'm doing all the thinking here. :-D

Won't they get in trouble with Miocrosoft because of this?

                      Class: CGDIRoundRect
Class that draws a rounded rectangle, using Windows API GDI calls.

A rounded rectangle is a region whose location is determined by the Left, Top, Right and Bottom properties of this class. The angles of the corners of the rectangle are always drawn at 90 degrees. The corners of the rectangle are rounded off based on the value of the Height and Width properties. The routines in this class allow you to draw the rounded rectangle by calling the Windows API RoundRect function.

Pretty sure GDI is older than the iPad.
