They've really lost the plot on the difference between a patent and a copyright.

It does state, "Design patent", which is different from a typical patent that pops into our mind. but yes, on the whole, the patent system is broken, I think to stop patent trolls, any patent that is granted must be put into practical use by the patent holder or a licensee of the patent within 1 year, and be maintained in use, or they forfit it and it is game for anyone to apply the 'idea' or whatever it is.

Why would you want exclusive rights on an icon, anyway? Especially one that is so generic, and which represents an object that you did not design or produce and do not hold any rights on. 411 days of legal discussion must have cost a fortune, and for what? A picture of something that someone else used to make? Do apple now have the right to retroactively sue people who made microphones that looked like that, and put pictures on their packaging? I think I'll apply for the patents for icons of floppy discs, and pencils, and pieces of paper. God knows the computer world doesn't want generic icons, that will be recognised by any user, no matter what application they're used in.

I'm going to apply for a patent on the vagina. Everyone who has one will have to pay me or it becomes my property.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends. Shed Petition[^]

Hilarity will ensue when selective patent enforcement gets the axe.

RCA needs to sue Apple for implying that they are somehow involved with Siri. http://dkestate.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/p10100044.jpg[^]
