Any counter arguments?

I am going to close my LinkedIn account. They have been spamming me saying people have endorsed me. I firmly believe that these people have other better things to do than endorsing me. I do not wish to find a job for a long time, and LinkedIn have very small impact on the job market here. I am confident that I can showoff very well with my personal web site. So, I don't see any reason not to.

LinkedIn often automatically pops up a dialogue with your contacts, and encourages you to quickly endorse your contacts. You can also endorse all the contacts it shows at once, so those people probably did endorse you, but not out of their own good will, but rather because it's easy, and the in-thing on LinkedIn these days.

I found a job via LinkedIn. I already left the position though. It was a good job, it just did not fit me. I would not close the account. You never know when something could come up or if you would be desperate. While some say it is worthless, there are numerous recruiters and opportunities that come up via the network. Dismissing them just because you are getting some spam does not seem logical unless you are towards the end of your career and have no intention on switching before you retire.
Computers have been intelligent for a long time now. It just so happens that the program writers are about as effective as a room full of monkeys trying to crank out a copy of Hamlet.

You get more attention on sites like that when you open an account, so the way to use them is to only open an account when you need attention, and close it when you've had enough attention.
