This is becoming all too common, and it almost ranks alongside the various fraudulent calls that we get at home; the "I am calling from Microsoft support" calls are starting up again. This poor woman was duped by these guys and it is appalling to think that she may have taken her life as a result. People really ought to think a bit more carefully about what practical jokes they play, and who they play them on.

One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

Oh, that makes more sense...at least in reference to the prank, but I don't see why someone would commit suicide over that...

From how people are overreacting, you'd think those DJs strangled the nurse.

I think it was entirely predictable. Of course the royals were going to have her snuffed following her lapse in thinking. :)

You would be amazed at some of the reasons that people feel suicidal. What seems trivial to you may be truly a matter of life and death to someone else.

Honestly, it's still a pretty funny joke. She wasn't under any disciplinary proceedings or anything and it's unreasonable to blame the DJs for her suicidal state. (Yay, no downvoting!)

True. And I can't say I even begin to understand how most people react to things like embarrassment, it's not a feeling I'm well acquainted with. I can't name a time I've felt embarrassed, though I can name a few times when people think I should have been.

Because she took her work seriously - and a breach of patient/nurse confidentiallity is likely to be taken seriously? Because she felt humiliated, and this was all over the news, probably internationally?

Worst case she has to find a new career (but I'm guessing unless this isn't the first time she probably wouldn't get much more than reprimand or temporary suspension). Would you kill yourself if you got fired?

People will forget about it within a couple years. Everyone makes mistakes, most people feel bad about it, then they get over it, as does everyone else around them. It just doesn't seem like enough to want to find such a permanent way out.

It is humour driven by laziness to prank unwitting participants. Radio shows have to produce so much material every day, they can't depend on actual comedy, and resort to a hack method. People are becoming way to sensitive, but "comedians" are also increasingly using the guise of comedy to be assholes.

I once had this[^] comedian do his annoying phone caller thing to me on the escalator on the Metro. I didn't want the to give him the satisfaction of getting any footage from me so I shouted "You've never been funny you fat *expletive deleted (rhymes with hunt)*" ensuring the footage is unusable in the UK. Not bad thinking as I was hammered at the time. I stand by what I said however, I never found him funny, though sadly I'm now no longer in any position to hurl fat as an insult.
