Could it be that #1 is ggod because its he cops choice and his money whilst #2 is not choice and your money, socialism is fine as long as the money is someone elses most people do not care about anybody elses health if its going to cost them

Yet again the cops are paid by the goverment...eq your tax money...so does social health care... I would prefer that my taxes are spent in helping society rather then bailing out oversized black hole banks while it's managers take million's in bonuses..just saying

But that's the problem perhaps in US and even in Europe (where a health care exists in most coutries) - the most ideas are not good, because the are made by politicians and most politicians can't handle any money.
