No that is validating them. When you validate them they will continue to spam. Ignore them and move on to the next post.

Yes that is what they what and need.

Only to re-emerge as another account formed to taunt you again.

How has that worked out for you.

Unfortunately, by recognizing these posts you are validating the spammer. It is you that is encouraging them to get another account and spam you some more. You have no one to blame but your righteous indignation. The only effective way to deal with a spammer is to ignore them. They are looking for validation and you are giving them that. I have been saying for years that if you do not validate their bad behavior they will go someplace else where they get a reaction, but some people cannot resist the urge to respond. Continue to validate them and they will continue to spam you. The choice is yours.

That doesn't make sense. It's spam, not trolling. If the spammer (probably a bot) from a few threads down had not had his membership cancelled, he would probably have continued to post messages every few minutes for hours. i.e. the result of an "ignore and move on" policy would have necessitated everyone having to "move on" through numerous pages of the same spammed message. No-one is responding to the spammers; they're just getting reported and deleted.

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesNo, they persist because they are probably being paid to do so, I doubt a bot is creating all the accounts they created. They persist to try to make sure someone sees their spam and buys their service. They persisted long before I started responding, and kept persisting, through the day. If anything, I think that they are realising that their spam will be deleted, and have moved on. It's not being done by someone trying to play a game, but for commercial reasons. Delete it before people can see, and it becomes a waste of their time

Not responding is exactly what I am talking about. Essentially you're deleting it, but without validating it.

No I am saying the same thing from before we had voting or reporting. If you ignore trolls they will go to forums where they will be validated, just as we are doing here,

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesWhat do you mean by "validating" spammers? Is deleting a form of validation (in your definition)? By *not* deleting them, we'd only be increasing their revenue, and they'd come back and post more and more spam once they find out nobody is deleting their posts.

I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopesI can't help but think you are wrong - these seem to be spam farms - they don't care where they put the stuff, they are paid to post it as much as possible. They don't seem to care that they post the same cr@p as a question and as an answer - which makes the spam less visible since it is removed from the unanswered list, just that they have posted it twice. Commenting on it encourages people to look at the Spam forum, and hopefully means that it all gets nuked earlier - defeating the original purpose of the spam.

Better than yours, apparently. Bd idea to stand up and shout "I'm smarter than everyone!" in a forum full of highly intelligent people.
