TechDays 2013
-
I've just discovered that Microsoft is discontinuing it's yearly Techdays event here in Sweden in 2013. My colleagues and I are normally attending, and even though the yield we get from it varies a lot, we kind of like it. So the thought is now: What should we do instead? There's MS Techdays in Holland (but we don't really fancy that), France (I'm the only one of us who speak French), Belgium (that might actually work if all of the sessions are in English). I know that there is normally a big event in San Francisco, and presumably also other parts of the US, but I haven't been able to find info about 2013 events. Soes any of the US CP'ans know when and where Microsoft is holding Techdays in the US in 2013? Most important is that the local beer is good!

A Dead ringer for Kate Winslett[^]You're right, I stand corrected. But the US have other pros - However, if we go to Belgium instead, it will definitely be because of the beer...

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932You are welcome. I think there are techdays in the UK (A quick squizz here[^] reveals that they have something in Glasgow around Valentine's day - if you are unluck you might get a Glasgae Kisss). The beer situation is tricky though, you'd have to find pubs serving real ale if you want anything decent.

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932Johnny J., my Son, you must put aside your grief, and quickly assemble your boon companions, and make penance, else, surely: TechDays will never come again to your Land, and thy kine, thy swine, also, will stumble, never to rise again, with the dropping sickness; thy cheese will not ripen; the black foxes will no longer breed: winter, heartless winter of eternal snows, will be: forever. Find, at a local slaughterhouse, two ears of a dead boar, for each of you that will make this pilgrimage: thread the two ears with a thong of leather. Wear the ears around your necks, like a garland. Then, travel to Laddtjovagge, and there, at the place you can see the three holy mountains of Sinngitjokka, Tuolpagorni, and Vierramvare, make a fire: fortify yourselves well, with as much Akvavit as you need to loosen all inhibitions: Then: cast the pigs ears into the flames, and dance around the fire, shouting the name of Odin. Dance until you can no longer move from exhaustion; shout until your voice can only make a croaking cough. Do this, with the proper attitude, and TechDays will return to your Land. I have been told these words while in a trance: they are not mine: I saw, in the trance, an ancient-woman: She said Her name was Gróa. Her name, and Her instructions on what you must do to return TechDays, are the only things I can remember. dizzily, Bill

Just because a thing is new don’t mean that it’s better - Will Rogers, September 4, 1932Create your own conference instead! A group of local developers got together and created the following idea. Maybe you can come up with something similar. Stir Trek - This conference is a one day conference that takes over a movie theater and has 5 sessions with 5 differing tracks of content. At the end of the speaking engagements, part of your ticket is a newly released movie. The last one was $25 for the whole day, lunch, and a movie (popcorn and drink provided). The reason they named it Stir Trek is because the latest Star Trek movie was the one they showed at the end of the day for the first conference.
