1. Throwing all Visual Studio versions and development stuff off my notebook. 2) Getting myself a nice IDE and a good C++ compiler. Does anybody remember the Watcom compiler? 3) Presently writing some code to try out the IDE and the compiler. Next step will be to get access to the (Postgre) database.

Good. VS is slow.. so I switched to MinGW Developer Studio.

That is also one I will take a look at. Right now I have Code::Blocks. Any suggestions for a good web application framework? For web sevices I want to take a look at Apache Axis.

Watcom still exists? Have you checked out clang?

Open Watcom[^]! I still have an ancient commercial installation CD from the time before I was tricked into drinking too much Microsoft coolaid. Driven (back) into the arms of Linux and C++ by Windows 8, to borrow a phrase. :)
