I originally picked it because it has a free version, which I sampled before buying, and it's device independant. I like also that is has web and desktop. So what do you people use to listen to music? p.s. we won't be naming things that start with i

I still use pandora and I listen pretty heavily... if not using pandora then I also do switch over to my own musical collection which is pretty extensive. Every now and then I'll explore videos through youtube or go looking for new stuff on the listentothis[^] subreddit.

I like and us RDIO but i only ended up coming to that decision after Pandora let me sign up for an account, process my CC and allow me to use it for a month before it told me it isn't allowed in Canada (yup, i'm a Kanuk) I like RDIO because of its social features and music discovery but lots of people like Spotify too. I don't have stock in either company so i don't have a vested interest in either, i just prefer RDIO.
Don't comment your code - it was hard to write, it should be hard to read!

A small MP3 player -- filled mostly with stuff ripped from vinyl, including a bunch of comedy/satire from the 1950s and 1960s (Stan Freberg, Alan Sherman, Tom Lehrer).

At work an (j-1)Pod Classic that contains my entire music collection. In the car a 2G (j-1)Pod 0.001µ that's good for a couple of weeks of commuting when loaded with 150-175 songs. I used to listen to the local rock station morning show, until they went with some syndicated crap. Similarly, I gave up listening to NPR when they couldn't stop masturbating on the air during the 2008 presidential election.

I use Pandora on my iPhone at work, and on Chrome at night as I go to sleep.

Comcast music channels, mostly...my console is screwed at the moment so I'm not getting radio and CD got unreliable many bumps ago. Before my stepson begged my speakers, I was using Windows Media Player on a PC. I do have a old little MP3 player. Most often lately I use my Android phone (Adele's live album got some overplay).

I used to listen to vinyls, until my son now two years old, ruined the Ortofon MC20 pickup. Mrs wife claims that replacing it will be to expensive. I remind her that it was she that let him into the room without supervision and that the money could be taken from her accounts. I'm downvoted. Now i listen to CD, radio, or mp3s on my phone. But it's not the same thing.

To listen to music I recommend speakers. Big fracken speakers. The bigger the better. And an amplifier that pumps out giga-watts of power. Think Marshall squared. The floors and the walls have to vibrate with the sound. Music has to be felt in order to be truly experienced. :)

Ouch. I'm currently running an Ortofon 2M Blue MM (through a Graham Slee Era Gold V, admittedly) and it sounds pretty darn good! Currently $225 here in the US - a bargain in my opinion. Maybe Mrs. would compromise... :) I agree - you can't beat a good vinyl setup (with a tube amp, of course!).

I use CDs. Anyone who doesn't, doesn't like music IMO. A bunch of files on the 'cloud' is not a music collection.

I buy actual CDs, in the hope that the performer will actually benefit from the transaction. I have no faith that online transactions will honestly benefit the artist who spent a lifetime cultivating his/her mastery in order to bring beauty to our otherwise sordid, empty lives. I admire and honor those of an artistic bent who devote their lives to creating auditory beauty for the rest of us to enjoy, while I detest the scumbags who control the artists' talents and collect huge, unearned sums in the manner of a lamprey - parasites, all.

My extensive research shows that the artists themselves get around the same percentage from music downloads (from legit sites) that they do from CD sales. Streamed music nets them bugger all per play. The parasites still get the bulk of the money - but, to be fair,they are also he ones gambling on their investment in the artist.

My approach exactly. With physical CDs, I know that I can rebuild my collection from source materials any time I need to. I've re-ripped my music half a dozen times since I started using MP3 players of one sort or another. I like using the players for their compactness and convenience, but since they are small and portable they are subject to loss or easy damage. I don't trust cloud storage for my personal property. I've read too many horror stories of that sort of thing disappearing overnight, leaving you with no recovery. Given the overheated atmosphere surrounding it, I can't see using the cloud for other than a delivery mechanism. If you don't have a backup, you're screwed.
