So after about 15 years of wearing glasses, I decided to get Lasik, which took place Friday. I am happy to report that I now have 20/15 vision without glasses :-D The whole thing was surprisingly painless (felt a little like I was being abducted by aliens though...dark room, lots of equipment, strange objects getting waved in front of my eyes...). Now for the long, difficult process of getting my brain to stop going "I should put my glasses back on" every 5 minutes... :doh:
A guy at work had the same procedure and now wears dummy glasses because he can't get used to not wearing any... :doh:
Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike... me...

It's an amazing procedure to experience for sure and results are typically as good as yours. But get ready for reading glasses when you get into your '50s or '60s. The surgery can't do anything about that. My wife had this done about 7 years ago after wearing glasses since she was 8 years old. Her greatest triumph though is that now when we are out swimming in the lake and a boat passes by with all the boaters waving at us, she knows who is waving at us. :)

yeah i had it done and got similar better than 20/20 results best money i ever spent on myself. Including a large section of the stupid papers they make you do at university Bryce

naah i had it done in NZ more than 10 years ago. 4-5k i recall. My advice is to go to the best you can find (i.e. pay money for quality) - not the cheapo ones. Bryce

i remember thinking it was great i could see the leaves and branches on the trees without glasses and seeing the tv without squinting ;) Bryce

I considered popping the lenses out of mine, just to see how long I could wear them until people realized I didn't need them... :laugh: But at least I'm still at the point where I have to wear sunglasses when I go outside, so if I'm out and I try to adjust my glasses I don't look silly because I'm actually wearing some...(my first pair of real sunglasses too, only owned glasses with transition lenses previously).

They advertise it here in Canada for around $500 an eye. I don't think I'd be cutting corners when it comes to your eyes, though. I'd be going for the Lamborghini version should I ever need to get it done.

If the procedure is so wonderful and risk-free, why do you still see people who work at laser eye places wearing glasses? :suss:

First, it's not risk-free. Second, it will not correct for all eye conditions that require glasses to correct. In a nutshell, if you need glasses just for short distances, then the procedure can not correct for that. But if your glasses are necessary for longer distances, then there is a good chance the surgery will be able to correct for that. :)

Good for you! I've looked into doing this several times and have opinions of many different eye doctors and they all told me that I am not a good fit for it. My prescription strength is so strong, the only thing they could do is knock it down a few notches but I would still have to wear glasses and not be able to wear contacts. Since glasses at my prescription are so heavy, contacts are a must for me. I wish they could transplant eyeballs so I could have good vision again.

They told me most people at my prescription aren't able to get it, but I have abnormally thick corneas so I got lucky there.

Well they can transplant some parts like corneas...maybe you can get some thick enough for the surgery...or just stack a few on top of each other :laugh:
