It just arrived and I saw this. Think I should return it? And while I have your attention, any recipes you wouldn't mind sharing?

I know a 3 yo grandkid who manages to take up an entire king size bed, I that is the antithesis of counter smart! We used to love the dried tomato bread, used to buy the recipe with the ingredients at a specialist shop.

I hadn't even thought of that. There are a couple in town. Thanks for the tip.

My day-to-day bread is half & half - 1.5 tablespoons of oil, 3/4 cup of tepid milk, two tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, two cups of flour [one white, one wholemeal], 3/4 teaspoon of bread maker yeast. In that order and a normal or brown bread setting. Your machine should have standard quantities you can adjust this with. The other thing I make regularly is chutneys and jams, small quantities and very easy. This morning I am putting in hot mango chutney. 2 mangos, four small apples, ginger, chillies, garlic and onion. Chop it all up, adjust the quantities for how spicy you want it. In the bread pan with two cups of vinegar, two cups sugar [brown and white] and some cinnamon. Set it to jam and you're good to go. Make sure you boil clean the jars you put it in.

This is a pretty good start http://www.food.com/recipe/cheese-and-onion-bread-in-the-bread-machine-98716[^] - I use wholemeal / white mix at 50/50, so you have to play with the water content to match your flour(s). It's worth having a delay timer on the thing though - nothing gets you out of bed on a Saturday morning like the smell of fresh baked bread... We got ours when Michelle was diagnosed with high blood pressure, and we put her on a very low salt diet (which meant that commercial bread was right out the window) It took me a month or two to come up with an acceptable recipe that uses no salt, but I haven't used it for years, after we got her stabilised and eventually off the pills.

We use ours all the time. As you say, put the mix in before bed and it's lovely warm fresh bread to dunk in your egg come breakfast.

I use a simple white bread recipe I got from my mother. We haven't actually bought any white bread in several decades, certainly not this century.

I'm making some gluten-free bread (I know somebody with an allergy) that should be done in about 40 minutes. i'll give that cheese and onion bread recipe a try sometime too. And my bread maker has a timer, so I may try waking up to some fresh bread (though I don't much like heat generating appliances being on when I'm asleep). Thanks for the tips.

Also, I thought the point of a bread maker was to take up space (so that your wedding gifts look nice and big).
