And what's your point? I didn't say other companies don't have 'windows' I said I associate the word with Microsoft and thus prefer to use the word 'screen' instead.

I'm sorry I offended your delicate sensibilities. I was simply trying to making a joke. Evidently, I failed.

My home machine is still on XP because that's what it came with when I bought it, 6½ years ago. We use most pieces of consumer tech for longer than that, why not computers?

If you read it again you will see that I never once used the word 'windows' something somebody has chastised me for already in this thread.

You don't have screens on your windows, how do you keep the bugs out? Ah, but we are talking about Windows...

It was broke, so I fixed it.

I wish to complain in the strongest possible terms about this tip. I clicked on the bar and not all my windows closed. I know this because the cat just tried to climb out of the open one to get at the birdies. Please be more accurate in future. Yours, Brigadier Sir Charles Arthur Strong (Mrs.) P.S. I have never kissed the editor of the Radio Times.

            "Minimize" is a better word.

Plus it's like the gnome 2 equivalent in the Windows world (and look how popular gnome 2 continues to be)... it just works, nothing fancy, just works.

And both our desktops are over 12 yrs old. A dual PIII and a dual Athlon MP. I'm running a RAID card in the Athlon where the management software work with any drivers newer than XP because they don't have the proper signatures. Keep looking at newer ones, but there just isn't money in the budget for new ones now that we have 2 kids in school. Just upgraded from XP to Win 7 at work last fall when they finally upgraded some of our 5+ yr old computers.

No, they are unweighted sashes - if they minimize they open fully.

If you want to access your desktop and you have lots of screens open you can just click the little vertical rectangle on the far right of the toolbar, next to the time/date. Yes I realise you all know that but I didn't till today. I've spent my whole life patiently minimising every single screen I had open in order to get to the desktop.

There's also a way to filter TABLE in SSMSE Object Explorer. Right click in the context menu ... name a SCHEMA ... voila, instant short list!

I'd really like to know if SQLServer2012 BOL is still pushing that copycon kludge that BOL for SS2k8: ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v10/MS.SQLSVR.v10.en/s10de_4deptrbl/html/2956df78-833f-45fa-8a10-41d6522562b9.htm (quote) The examples use a sample data file, myTestFormatFiles-c.Dat, which contains the following records. To create the data file, at the Microsoft Windows command prompt, enter: (end quote) ... blah, blah, blah^2 But wait since Windows 8 doesn't necessarily have any DOS support ...

 Well we all gotta learn somehow... In Windows 7 there's also the window shake trick... You've probably never heard of that either so (bad video but it'll give you the idea): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XVtipEecVw[^]
