I just installed the latest iOS (6.1) on my iPhone, and after it installed it went through a configuration screen, which setup backups to iCloud for me. The process seems to have deleted all of the phone numbers from my contact list (and it looks like it deleted some contacts entirely). And it seems I'm not the only one. I guess this is their way of actively testing out the feature to make sure it works?

I did that to my wife's iPhone this afternoon. I neither know nor care if it caused any problems. It wasn't working properly beforehand either, I've not noticed any difference in the levels of complaining.

Maybe Apple decided that since all your contacts didn't also have iPhones that you shouldn't be talking to them, because they don't meet Apple's strict contact guidelines.

Seems to be some sort of collaboration between Facebook and Apple to screw me over. I see all my Facebook contacts, but none of them have any of their phone numbers.

No consolation for you but... my update to the iPhone and Apple TV went smoothly.

I hope it did the backup before it trashed the list... I must admit, I get more and more impressed with Android and it's integration with Chrome. If I add a bookmark on my desktop PC, it shows up on my Tablet!

If you get an email telling you that you can catch Swine Flu from tinned pork then just delete it. It's Spam.

They all do that now (I believe Opera was the first, as usual). Maxthon goes one further, by allowing you to open pages that are open on your other devices, so I can browse for pages on my PC (which is easier than browsing on a tablet or phone), and if I think I'll want to open them at work/in transit/etc. I can just leave them open, and tap a link to open them on my phone or iToy later. That saves the hassle of storing and deleting bookmarks/favourites for pages that you don't want to keep longer term.

I had a look through the list of what's changed, and didn't bother.

Ouch! My opinion of Apple product quality has not improved...again. You poor bugger - this is why I spend so much time making all my devices talk to a central repository, which gets backed up each day.

Hehe, I know what you mean. By the way, what software are you using to coerce your devices to sync with a central repo?

A pile of differerent ones: I use Outlook as the center, so the phone is pretty easy: Sync Center handles that. The Nexus 7 I use MyPhone Explorer (which has a few problems, like it doesn't auto start on connect, which is a PITA) Basically, I take connectivity into account when I pick the hardware - if I can't connect it in and share info between them somehow, I don't buy it. I'm pretty sick of being tied to a single company because that's where my data is and they don't talk to anyone else!
