                If everyone switches to webkit, what is the point of existing as a browser? The differences in browser chrome are not really important...

                  People worry about compatibility with Opera? I mean I guess is you really need those 4 other people to be able to view your site... :laugh:

                    I kinda like your philosophic attempt to view on the browser engine mess... To use webkit or not to use webkit.:thumbsup:

                      I started using Opera presicely for that reason. It is a small target, not worth going after by malware developers. Now it is part of a larger target, which will make it more vulnerable. :~

                        Because Webkit is just the rendering engine, there are still other things to consider like UI, plugins, APIs...for example even if Firefox used Webkit, it's plugin API is still more permissive than Chrome's, and allows for plugins that can't exist on Chrome (specifically, a lot of stuff dealing with managing downloads, Chrome doesn't allow the same level of access).

                          Well, so far I do not have any users using Opera on my site. But their website claims they have 300 million users. So even if that counter is counting since 1995, it is still a huge number. :)

                            According to Wikipedia;

                            Quote:

                            As of December 2011, Opera has a 1.3% to 2.6% worldwide usage share of web browsers.

                            Significantly more in some regions, but otherwise, I wouldn't say it's big enough to spend that much time worrying about.
