I wonder if it is debris related to the recent near-Earth asteroid, travelling along side it, possibly broken off at some point. I found this [^] this morning, the date on the camera looks like it is wrong.

yes, it was some kind of panic here. People from several big cities saw this. Mobile phones stopped working almost immediately. Luckily, there were no serious injures, most people were injured by broken glass. Scientists from the nearest observatory say that it doesn't related to the asteroid which will come later. Seriously, many people believe, that we should wait for bigger pieces in the nearest hours. Who knows..

Nope, There was a punter on the news saying that this debris came from a completely different direction from the recent near earth object.

It is odd that the news hasn't mentioned the lack of link (or a least the news I'd seen before I set off for work), this was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the Russia thing. Part of me wishes I'd seen it, but equally I'd rather be safe....

I don't think the article author got it correctly. Even if space marines has been existing for decades, the mental picture that comes when thinking of a space marine is the one of the Game Workshops figurines ( as the figurine itself or as drawings of it), not the ones from Hogarth. It is as if someone once talked about an iPhone in a book in 1930 : Equally, everybody today think Apple and not Book from 1930 when you talk about an iPhone. To cut a long story short, I don't think Games Workshop is that wrong on that topic.

I disagree entirely - I grew up reading Robert Heinlein and similar - and that's what I think of when I hear the phrase Space Marine. I have never been through the door of a Games Workshop, so what the spotty geeks in there think of doesn't matter to me. If they have a series of figurines called Roman Legionaires, I would not automatically think of them when somebody talks of centurions and cohorts - Julius and Augustus Caesar would spring to mind. Just because Games Workshop has appropriated the name, shouldn't mean they have any right to it

OK, I grew up playing Games Workshop games, I might be slightly biased. What surprises me is that I have never heard of Heinlein, while being a big sci-fi fan (and especially of the other two "Big Three", Clarke and Asimov).

Really? One of the most prolific scifi writers of all time! Started in the 30's and continued until his death in the 80's. Never heard of Starship Troopers? Stranger in a Strange Land? He was very right wing in his politics, but very liberal in his sexual mores

It's well known that if all the cat videos and porn disappeared from the internet there would be only one site left and it would be called whereareallthecatvideosandporn.com
