I always thought the double m looks odd as well. Although it's supposed to be correct, I still find myself using a single m since it still just feels correct to me. Haha.

Google always chooses the one with 2 m's. Type it with one and it will say "did you mean: programmatically?"

.In India, if we are writing a single 'm' it is marked wrong(in exams and official documents especially). The correct spelling we take into account is double 'm'. But a single 'm' is used when we are mentioning something related to computer program. In fact, we mention 'programme'(this is UK English which is preferred in India also) and not 'program'. So, we have to use a double 'm'. Yet some local newspapers and posters are trying to popularize the single 'm' edition of the spelling. Actually, we seem to do away with a lot a grammar nowadays, which should have been there.

.I was taught: programme = UKish, Program = USish. But, by convention we use program for computer programs. Similar to the way we UKians use disk for disk drive but disc elsewhere. Following on, you should probably use the single m spelling.
Sort of a cross between Lawrence of Arabia and Dilbert.[^]
