That's funny, because I picture him in a clapped-out Ford Cortina pulling these out of the Times which, like everybody else, he reads to make him look/feel like an intellectual.

I am a Daily Telegraph reader of many years standing. Anyway, if this annoys you so much why, pray tell, are you commenting on it?

As it happens I do make them up myself. The truth is that I actually am very bright and very well educated. I am sure those on here that have met me will attest to the fact that I am not the 'Mr Thickie' that you would like to believe. Your attempted character assassinations reveal more about you than about me, and it seems you have a terrible inferiority complex. Do clever people who have done things with their lives truly terrify you? Bullied at school perhaps? Overbearing siblings who alienated you from your mother? Who can say? I am sure you won't. Still, it is refreshing to think that I can still engender this kind of roiling spite and deep loathing, it means I haven't mellowed with age.
