In this case Orange... Who renamed themselves to "Everything Everywhere (EE)" Which apparently doesn't extend to updates deployed in a timely manner it seems. I've decided to change phone company (EE, used to be Orange) at the end of my contract as it has taken them over 2 months to deploy the last update to WinPhone 7. It may be largely cosmetic, but surely that means it should be even simpler to upgrade. Can anyone recommend a provider who actually gets round to updating phones? Or does anyone else fancy naming and shaming a provider for shoddy service in this area?

They're all shite. Changing phone companies is like changing lane in a motorway traffic jam, it always looks as though the other lanes are moving faster until you finally make the switch then look back at your old lane moving ahead of you. If you move, do it for price, they will let themselves down on service at some point.

I'm on Vodafone and I got 7.8 for a while now :) I have always been weary of Orange AND T-Mobile. Glad they decided to get together to form EE, so I only have to avoid a single company instead of two.

I hadn't thought about this until now, but my updates come from Apple. I am on AT&T and when I was using my windows phone a couple of years ago, AT&T never seemed to update it. Seems like letting MS update your phone is the way to go, sad that the providers have to meddle with it.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind when it comes to contract renewal.

Yes, but you'd never know as nobody seems to be bothered to deploy it. (Muttley-like snarling)

Last week I saw on the Nokia site that the update is there, so I phoned Orange about it. The lady I spoke to had no clue about the update, the systems couldn't even tell her if it was in testing

From what I've read around the web, Microsoft itself has put the update on hold because it seems that for some people, WP 7.8 breaks the live tiles updates. It happened to me, so there's some truth to that rumour (some apps live tiles stop updating, I have a few apps that have the live tile stuck on the day I installed the update -- but the apps still work fine). So instead of letting everybody install a broken version and then at some point in time install an update to fix it, you'll only be getting the hopefully fixed version. But this is Microsoft we're talking about, so how knows when that update will come. If at all...
