Yeah right, and StarWars is only a movie. Crawl back under stone where you came from! ;P

This is nothing. The old models can go up to €3,000. I have a collection of about hundred _very_ old sets, in perfect state; each of it is between €50 and €300 worth. A small gold mine, if I ever find the time and willing to put them on auction.

The old sets I can understand being worth something, nothing better than a nostalge and they have rarity value. This set is new, and I'm prepared to guess the main cost involved in this must be the manufactoring of the mould-dies, which they've presumably already recouped during the original production run otherwise they're reproducing a model they've already lost money on.

How dare you suggest I'd suggest such a thing :) Episodes 1-3, they were just movies, and arguably 2 wasn't even that, just a series of pictures displayed rapidly to bore the viewer to tears.

These are limited sets. The design also has a cost, this is the result of hours spent on fine-tuning the model. And this is no toy, it is an art object. Your reasoning implies rationaltity, but there are indeed people who pay $10,000 for a bottle of champagne, even if it is only a lot of water with a bit of alcohol and fruit...

When I saw the 10179, I was very tempted but at £300 I thought it too much. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! [If you don'y know which kit that is then I don't care]

Lego is going to (or maybe already has) release a new UCS version of the X-Wing : http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Red-Five-X-wing-Starfighter-10240[^]. I am very tempted. I have been looking for years for an affordable 7191[^], but this is quite impossible (most of them for sale are in the US, and nobody in the US is willing to ship outside the US. Looks like your snail mail is either very expensive, or completely rubbish). The new one has still some problems (the first and most obvious being that it is mostly white instead of grey), but it is shiny. Very very shiny.

Or both. I recently purchased an engagement ring and the one I found is from a jeweler in Tokyo. To send a 400 gram* package worth almost $3000, from Tokyo to Madison, WI took 3 days and cost a grand total of $12, guaranteed delivery date and required signature, with insurance. And that 3 days included getting through customs. I am not sure I can get a letter across town with that list of requirements for less than $20 in 3 days guaranteed. And the US service is going bankrupt! * The package weight was listed at 400 grams, I don't think it actually weighed that much.
