Coffee and Programming?
-
Is there anybody who just craves or is "addicted to coffee" as a software developer, computer/system programmer or just plain "programmer." For instance, you may pause a project briefly just to brew and sip a cup of Joe. Like you cannot live or cannot survive a day without thinking about having a craving of this drug?
Simple Thanks and Regards, Brandon T. H. Programming in C and C++ now, now developing applications, services and drivers (and maybe some kernel modules...psst kernel-mode drivers...psst). Are you kidding? I never "sip" my :java: I have it administered via a intravenous drip.

I have coffee every morning after I get to work. On my way in I stop and grab a cup. And then an hour later I have another. And then an hour later I sometimes have another, depending on how long of a night I had. Even if I'm not worn down, I can be entirely well rested, but I still have to have it. So yes, I feel the need for it every morning. :)

Inject? Isn't that dangerous, does your body have to chemically break it down, or it will kill you by poisoning.

Not really, we programmers have special body chemistry. How else do you think we survive on a diet of Bacon and Pizza while maintaining the physique of an Adonis?

Does not sound too healthy, I eat mostly a diet of beans, sandwiches, while going to the Gym to do weight lifting...so yeah, Lol (no pun intended). Even though I try to limit how much caffeine I take in to my system and how I make it (I add so much coffee grounds, the coffee tastes like dirt, even after a few creamers and/or 10 tablespoons of table sugar), since it can make me dizzy, really tired, go to the rest room a lot, overly sweat, makes me jittery, you get the picture.

Not really, I make/drink my daily Cappuccino in the morning when I come in.

At previous jobs, I just slept as much as I needed and would be good to go for the day (at one job, there was a nap room for when you didn't get enough sleep overnight). At my current job, I can never seem to sleep enough. I prefer 9.5 hours of sleep a night, but usually get about 5-7. Most days, I drink half a cup of coffee in the morning, a 5-Hour Energy after lunch, and sometimes green tea in the afternoon (all of those have caffeine, except I sometimes have decaf tea when I'm not tired). On days I only get 4-6 hours of sleep, it's a full cup of coffee for me, and more tea in the afternoon. One of my coworkers used to drink coffee instead of water, but not so much anymore (a recovering caffeineaholic). And I was just troubleshooting something with another coworker, and he went to grab some coffee while Azure took a few minutes to setup a VM.

I used to have eight large mugs of coffee during a day. Plus tea (English style, hot, not Earl Grey) with breakfast and for supper. I have cut down (gradually) and now managed on 2 large mugs a day (AM & PM) plus the aforementioned tea as usual. I think I am at a relatively healthy level now. Caffeine doesn't stop me sleeping and doesn't seem to give me a boost either. However, if I don't have at least a little I get headaches and feel like carp until I have a cup (tea or coffee).

Living that night life I see. Staying up on the computer, surfing the world wide web and developing software projects.
