    Just been shared on a Project Issue Tracker for a new project and the first issue at the top of the tracker is 'Create a project issue tracker' and the issue is closed. :wtf: I think that has got to be the most pointless thing I have ever seen.

      It could have been worse. The first entry could have been something like "come up with cool project name".

      Talladega. They're naming them after speedways in the States at the moment. Could have been worse we recently had projects called Neo, Trinity and Morpheus.

          Its not always completely pointless. If you have a VCS that 'wants' to have a justification for changes like we do, the release letter typically has a place for tracker issue. In our issue tracker system, we have change requests for bug fixes, enhancements and new features. Our VCS release letter template has an issue reference field. The project report system reports on all the release letters in the repository periodically and a null tracker reference shows up on the report as a gratuitous change.

            Oh boy. We had a project a while back code-named Garlits, after "Big Daddy" Don Garlits[^] of drag racing fame. It was fun explaining the project name to our international partners. They were using bird names for a long time: Falcon, Blue Jay, and Osprey. We occasionally had hopes of an Albatross project, but it never came to be. The hardware for our current product is code-named 'Mississippi', after the river. Naturally, we named our software 'Delta', since we get to deal with all the crap at the end.

            Software Zen: delete this;

              It makes sense to me. When I have a list of things to do and I do something that's not on my list, I write it on the list then immediately cross it off of the list. So, yeah.

                  Maybe I am and maybe I'm not. I am however indecisive and paranoid. :-D

                    I'm not OCD, I'm CDO - with the letters in the correct alphabetical order!

                    - I would love to change the world, but they won’t give me the source code.

                      It's like it came out of the project management singularity before which we cannot see - was it red shifted? It created itself - my mind is going to explode just trying to figure that out...

                        In a similar vein, many years ago on about my second day as a junior technician, I made the mistake of using the last page in the departmental requisition book for something other than a new requisition book. Talk about the noob bringing the department to its knees... Cheers, Peter

                          But at the top of your list does it say 'Make a list'?

                            No. Damnit! I've got to start doing that. Thanks for the tip.
